Into the Valley of Death

Modern* Ramp Theme/Gimmick Tribal

Koakuma

...Rode the 600.

==================================

Isn't it funny how a deck can evolve over time? What started as a mono-green practice deck for newbies evolved into a blue/green big creatures deck, then into a five-color defender-themed deck. That defender-themed deck then narrowed down into a Bant-colored Door to Nothingness deck named Walls to Nothingness. Walls to Nothingness has now evolved into this. I dropped the blue in favor of black, since black is much better at disposing of threats. Plus, I get access to the all-powerful Doran, the Siege Tower.

==================================

This is my official Tribal deck for my local Modern Tribal tournament.

Rules are as follows:

-Modern Banlist

-No sideboard

-At least 1/3 of the deck must share a creature type

-Only 8 of the cards in this deck may be Changelings

LOOKING FOR ADVICE. EVERY SUGGESTION WILL BE CONSIDERED

==================================

The key mechanic behind this deck: Defender.These guys don't attack. Unless Wakestone Gargoyle is on the field. The idea of this deck is to block everything and heal from what you cannot block. Overgrown Battlement and Perimeter Captain trigger off Defenders. Doran loves things with high toughness. Wakestone Gargoyle turns all your walls into makeshift beaters. The win conditions? Doran, the Siege Tower + Wakestone Gargoyle . Wakestone Gargoyle + Wall of Blood Colossus of Akros. Wall of Limbs + Sapseep Forest + Wall of Reverence + Gavony Township + Perimeter Captain

==================================

Why each card is in here: Colossus of Akros-Win condition. Big blocker. Gain 10 or 20 life from it per turn with Wall of Reverence. -Did I mention he doesn't actually lose defender -- He just ignores it?-Combos with Wakestone Gargoyle. You don't HAVE to monstrous him to attack with him as a 10/10.

Wall of Spears-First Strike. Very good against Deathtouch, and also immune to some removal. (GftT)

Doran, the Siege Tower. -Do I really need to explain this one?

Overgrown Battlement-Provides mana for colorless expenses. Pretty much required for monstrousing the Colossi.

Perimeter Captain-Attack deterrent. He also allows you to pull off shenanigans with Wall of Limbs. --Ex: Opponent attacks with a 10/10 trample and a 5/5. --Block the 10/10 with a Wall of Limbs, and throw everything else you can spare at the 5/5.--Suddenly, Wall of Limbs is an 8/11 and survives.

Wakestone Gargoyle-Allows all defenders to attack! -Is a 3/4 flier.

Wall of Blood-The combo with multiple Wall of Reverences is unreal. On its own, though, it's a powerful blocker or a terrifying attacker.

Wall of Limbs-Attack deterrent. Also grows with Sapseep Forest, Wall of Reverence and Perimeter Captain. Abuse that how you wish.

Wall of Mulch-Card draw! Ever important draw. Wall of Mulch lets you sac a doomed wall (Such as an Overgrown about to be Doom Bladed) for a card.

Wall of Reverence-Probably one of the scariest cards in the deck. It's a potential 6/6 in the air, heals you for a minimum of 1 life every turn, and triggers Wall of Limbs. Every. Turn.

Gravity Well-I know there's gonna be fliers. Be they Angels, or Faeries, or Slivers. They'll be there.-Considering Raking Canopy, but RC doesn't kill the dangerous Angels. I'd prefer having Avacyn slam into a Colossus rather than my face.

Stave Off-1-mana "Counter target colored spell that targets a permanent", or "Target colored creature deals no combat damage this turn".-I find this card absolutely invaluable. Not only can it save my creatures, but it annihilates enemy combos.

Gavony Township-Many decks ramp up by playing universal enchantments. This deck uses Gavony.

Sapseep Forest-See Wall of Limbs.
