Finished the Description!! —Aug. 13, 2014

I finally finished the description for the deck and made a few changes to the deck!! Thanks to Femme_Fatale for kicking me in the ass and motivating me enough to finally get the description finished. Also, I'm doing a comment sweep. :) Any suggestions are welcome!!

Why the Boon of Erebos ? there must be better stuff out there.

I'm assuming the Boon of Erebos is mostly there for the regeneration, but I do agree. Mutagenic Growth and Apostle's Blessing probably fit into the deck better.

Four Lingering Souls in the sideboard seems like a waste to me. Lingering Souls is something you can (and should) mainboard. For one, you can sometimes just kill people by attacking them with a bunch of tokens. And two, it frees up valuable sideboard space. I think Leyline of Sanctity should be moved to the sideboard and you cut a Rite of Consumption , giving you all four Lingering Souls in your mainboard, three Leyline of Sanctity available in your side, and one other card open. A fourth Intangible Virtue might do the trick.

I do like the idea of playing a B/W Token deck in your side. All of the pieces are there, so the transition is easy. I dislike Ad Nauseam because I feel like that deck rolls over dead to anything people would sideboard against Death's Shadow . Specifically, people will board in countermagic to deal with Angel's Grace and Tainted Strike .

The other idea is to switch to B/W Midrange, in which case your sideboard would probably look something like:

4x Dark Confidant
1x Dismember
4x Inquisition of Kozilek
3x Liliana of the Veil
1x Slaughter Pact
1x Sorin, Lord of Innistrad
1x Victim of Night

Combined with Lingering Souls and Thoughtseize mainboard, you could go from a combo deck to a really grindy, attrition-based deck rather easily. However, that type of sideboard would be rather expensive in the cash department.

You would be right, the Boon of Erebos is there for removal resiliency for the Shadow, but it's also a +4/+2 on the Shadow for B and 2 life. I find that if they can come into removal for the Shadow, everything falls apart, unfortunately. I like the idea of Apostle's Blessing against the Affinity matchup G2 and maybe even G1, but otherwise I can't find a reason to run in when I'm running Faith's Shield . Thoughts sylvannos??

I want to try to find space for Lingering Souls mainboard if I decide on going all in with B/W Tokens side, but I can't cut my Leyline of Sanctity if I have any hope of surviving the burn matchup at all. They're an instant side-out G2 if I'm not playing against anything with Lightning Bolt s, but it is a popular card I want to make sure I'm able to work around G1. I'm also considering non-transformative just to shut down on some popular matchups in Modern meta.

You'd cut Faith's Shield out of your deck completely. Apostle's Blessing can be cast off of one black or one white, but Faith's Shield can't. You also can pay life, so Apostle's Blessing makes your Death's Shadow bigger.

Faith's Shield can save me from taking a bolt or two to the face at 5 or less life, or protect my Shadow, but also protect my Leylines, lands or my Phyrexian Unlife , and also, not force me into choosing to pay 1W or take 2 damage to the face when I least need to. Also, most of my lands tap for either color, depending on what I need it for, so I think I'll keep in my Shield. Literally the only plus to running the Apostle's Blessing would be when I come up against Affinity, and I have my Stony Silence sideboard for my Affinity matchups. I don't mean to come across as a dick, I tend to do that sometimes when I'm defending my deck-building choices

Also, I decided to cut the Leylines and move them to sideboard, so I could main Surgical Extraction . A T1 Thoughtseize to Extraction makes damn sure that no matter what, I'm not getting bolted lol.

Naw, you're not being a dick. I get why you have Faith's Shield . It's just that you have the option of casting Apostle's Blessing off of a single black. I'm sure you've ran into a couple of situations where you used up all your white to cast Phyrexian Unlife and Angel's Grace in a single turn.

I think it's a card worth testing out. I suppose it depends on your meta and how many decks have no problem casting double Lightning Bolt or Snapcaster Mage -> Lightning Bolt vs. how many decks can put a strain on your mana (via Tectonic Edge ) or play artifacts (whether it's Affinity or Tron).

Also, I'm not sure if anyone has suggested a singleton Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth . It helps with your Isolated Chapel s coming into play untapped, makes it so Caves of Koilos doesn't always have to ping you, and Marsh Flats taps for mana.

As far as Surgical Extraction , what about one or two Ghost Quarter to go with it? You can Surgical Extraction non-basic lands, such as Celestial Colonnade , Treetop Village , and Urza's Tower . That's probably cutting too many important pieces out of the deck to make room for something situational.

I see your point for Apostle's Blessing , but most of my lands are tapping for both colors anyways, or fetching a land that will tap for both colors, so making sure I can cast off of only 1 black is a fringe situation most of the time. Generally, that's not an issue for me, but I appreciate where you're trying to help by giving me something more castable. As far as my meta goes, there's only 1 artifact deck (it's an amateur Affinity-style build) and there isn't a single UrzaTron player, but it's also far more casual than I'm building this deck for, so an open meta is something I want to prepare for. I'll try it out, no promises I keep it in though. The Urborg suggestion could and would be replacing a Swamp if I wasn't so scared of Blood Moon dumping all over me in this deck. Also, consistency is key, and a singleton is difficult to use in here. Ghost Quarter could maybe be a good sideboard card, but colorless is difficult to use if I get stuck with it since everything is 1 drops in here. I do appreciate the fact that you're helping me a lot by giving me different ideas for this deck though. :)

What in the ... what is this? Far too many gimmicks going on here for this deck to work very well. Focus on one thing, and that is developing tempo and providing a much larger advantage with the live loss provided from superior cards to buff Death's Shadow .

I'm talking thins like ... Sign in Blood , Night's Whisper , Dark Confidant , Phyrexian Arena , Mana Confluence , Bitterblossom , all that fun stuff.

And how do you suppose you are going to survive against a deck with more creatures than you? A deck with control? 4 creatures and 3 enchantments as your only means of surviving is absolutely nothing. Vampire Lacerator , Guul Draz Vampire , Loxodon Peacekeeper , and Sangrophage are all useful creatures to use.

Removal, removal is always important. Good choices include Path to Exile , Dismember and Orzhov Charm .

If you need any explanations as to why I suggest these things, let me know and I'll explain why, but for the most part, many are self explanatory and will help you win against many different types of decks.

Femme_Fatale: This is a combo deck that goes off T3 at best. Most of my life loss is very easily achieved on T1 through Godless Shrine , Marsh Flats , Thoughtseize , Surgical Extraction , and the real bread winner, Spoils of the Vault . Spoils will drop my life total very significantly T1, easily below the required number for Death's Shadow . T2 is spent casting Death's Shadow , leaving open 1 mana for protection effects or using that mana to further drop my life total. T3, use a combination of protection effects and Tainted Strike to swing for lethal. This is of course best case scenario, and the rest of the deck is designed to keep the deck resilient. Phyrexian Unlife is a T3 drop if I can't get the combo off on that turn. There is a small chance I kill myself T1 with Spoils of the Vault , but in the cases that happens, that means my win condition wasn't in the top 20 cards of my deck and I was going to lose that matchup regardless of whether I used Spoils of the Vault or not. It's not a tempo deck, it is combo. I do like some of your suggestions, like Sign in Blood and Night's Whisper , and I love the suggestion for Orzhov Charm a lot. However, I want to lower my own life to a number between 6 and 3 and I don't want to be forced to lose life every turn through drain effects like Dark Confidant or Phyrexian Arena . The other creatures are good for literal tempo Suicide Black, but like I said, combo not tempo. One of your suggestions is sideboard already ( Dismember ) and the other one ( Path to Exile ) is currently a placeholder until I can get a hold of Slaughter Pact s.

Probably should make a description then eh? 70% of your upvotes are because of a good description.

Lol probably. I'm bad with descriptions because my decks change a lot, but I'll see what I can do. :)
