Description

Casual Orzhov Extort with Crypt Ghast as the centerpiece. Any advice would be appreciated, especially card distributions. The key theme is extort. Spending accumulated life to gain advantage within the game is the main goal. This deck aims for Crypt Ghast on turn 4 in order to ramp into Obzedat/Sorin/Griselbrand on turn 5/6 with as much extort as possible. Thanks!

Tithe Drinker may have a home here, a lower cost 2/1 with lifelink and extort.

A personal favorite of mine would be Kambal, Consul of Allocation, which could help with the life gain in the deck with a relatively lower cost as well.

Also if the mana base is quick enough you could add Debt to the Deathless or Campaign of Vengeance.

Thanks very much for the suggestions! Tithe Drinker and Campaign of Vengeance would definitely be more offensive. But I'd probably lean more towards being defensive in this deck. So Kambal, Consul of Allocation and Debt to the Deathless could be interesting. They definitely fit within the theme. I am worried about not having any instants in this deck. Vindicate is great, but at least if I had Kambal out I'd get return for non creature spells played during my opponents turn that way. Maybe put him in at x 2 over Vampire Nighthawk.

Debt to the Deathless is better than Consume Spirit at 7 mana and above. Most games I'll have that if I have Crypt Ghast out. Definitely worth considering.

After testing this out with my play group for a few weeks. I have come to the conclusion that cheap draw is necessary in the deck, and Sign in Blood makes the most sense. Phyrexian Arena is another option, but I like the cheaper, more immediate draw from Sign in Blood. Also trying to keep this deck modern legal otherwise I'd consider Necropotence. Inquisition of Kozilek, Contaminated Ground and Vindicate are all great at stalling the until I can unload the big spells with Crypt Ghast. Against mono-black however, Castigate or some other equivalent is better in the 2 slot.
