As a deckbuilding challenge in our local group we decided to build 30$ budget decks with following rules: 30$ worth of Cards and no more than 5$ shipping costs. and The Decks are not to be played against only Budget decks so you need a real Deck. with Challenges like these you start to brew and think how you Could increase your overall Powerlevel without breaking the bank.

for this iteration with release of War of the Spark, Energy could finally have all pieces with enough proliferate to function. Energy is a self-contained mechanic, so a deck with this theme uses only cards that work with one another which is perfect for a budget deck, if we are the only ones who need or play the cards it should be no high prices involved.

Our General is Yidris not only has he the four strongest Energy Colors he also enables us to Amass our Energy at double the rate with his Cascade, which hopefully equals the playing field against nonbudget decks. Maybe i am biased against the only real four colors of Magic but this sounds like it could work.

Energy as an Theme also Allows us to play cards with the same Powerlevel as Jace, the Mind Sculptor with Rogue Refiner and Attune with Aether atleast if you only look at their banning in Standard.

Upsides:

Good Curve

Many levels of interaction enhancement, bounce, ETBs, combat trigger, untap, flicker clones

high powerlevel because no pro players testplayed the Set

Energy is hard to interact because many decks cant steal or use Energy for themself

many players will underestimate the power of Energy and manaless or "free Value"

Electrostatic Pummeler

Downsides:

Only selfcontained

not much Finisherpotential

unfocused ways of Energy production, bounce, ETBs, combattrigger, Upkeep

Small Cardpool with only 70 cards that mention Energy in their text
