I was watching someone play Brudiclad and realized he could probably copy a lot of broken stuff somehow after I saw 7 copies of Bloodchief Ascension become active in a game.

So I looked at cards to find one win condition that I could copy that people often don’t win with, and I came across the total turd that is Baneful Omen. The card is terrible (4BBB for no card advantage and random life loss), but if you had like 30 of them, and you could reveal something with a converted mana cost (i.e. not a land), you could just kill the whole table. So this is that deck.

I made a couple of personal rules for the deck that I wanted to follow because I think it makes the deck more fun:

  1. No extra turns. There’s only one turn that matters anyway: the final turn!

  2. Only one tutor. Doomsday is kind of a tutor but it’s more of a last turn type thing. Demonic Tutor is the only true tutor.

  3. No infinite anything. Making infinite mana to make infinite tokens would be infinitely easier, so that’s out.

  4. Everything has to be hard cast. No Omniscience, which partially wouldn’t matter anyways because of the way the deck wins.

We want to ramp into as many lands as possible so Brass's Bounty makes 30+ treasures. There’s tons of draw and board wipes to keep you alive until The Final Turn. So, best case scenario, here is the deck’s final turn:

  1. Cast Silence. Wouldn’t want anything spoiling the fun! Update: also added City of Solitude as a backup. Silence just wasn’t cutting it enough, and City forces people to deal with it on their turn.

  2. Cast Doomsday and get the rest of the cards you need to cast this turn to win that you don’t already have. This part is somewhat difficult because you have to leave one card (a card you don’t need with a cmc) and you have to figure out the exact number of cards you need to draw/rack so that you have a card left to reveal and you have all the pieces you need.

  3. Cast a draw spell other than Overwhelming Instinct, or Scroll Rack for all the cards you need to win. You should be left with a card that has a converted mana cost (preferably a cmc greater than 1) on top of your library.

  4. Cast Brass's Bounty. You’ll have like 30+ lands in play from the crazy amount of ramp in the deck. So now you got 30+ treasure tokens.

  5. Cast Baneful Omen.

  6. Cast Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer.

  7. Cast Mimic Vat. Cast Clever Impersonator, cloning Brudiclad. Legend rule kills the impersonator, the vat imprints it.

  8. Activate Mimic Vat, making a token copy of Baneful Omen. Brudiclad triggers on combat, and you make all your treasures and myr token into Baneful Omens.

  9. Move to end step, revealing whatever card you left on top (hopefully something like Supreme Verdict so you can “supreme verdict” everyone to death). Everyone else dies. Get fucked! GG! Hooray!

I’m open to suggestions, especially making the deck more efficient, or if there’s some spell I missed that might be key into setting everything up. But I’m not going to break any of the rules I made for the deck.

Update: some of the extra land per turn cards were terrible and didn’t help with the deck in any way so they were cut for some that do. I wanted another 4 drop wrath effect, a draw spell that wasn’t X (for Mizzix's Mastery), and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon’s ultimate can be a secondary win, putting the pieces you need into play so you can end the game, assuming you can make enough tokens with Brass's Bounty. But the combo has worked! And the deck is suuuper controlling and resilient. I’m hoping these updates push it into a more competitive and consistent state.

Second update: 41 Baneful Omens and a blind Cultivate reveal for the first Omen kill of the deck! This after my Silence was countered, followed by a counter for Doomsday and having them Bojuka Bog’d. The deck is super resilient.
