So it turns out that Devotion isn't as great as I thought. I got my first two losses handed to me incredibly quickly thanks to Abzan and Jund. Abzan usually is the harder of the two because of more clean removal, Siege Rhino and access to Stony Silence in the sideboard which shut off both the Trading Post and the Sword of Light and Shadow in my hand which was going to help me stabilize. Jund is an easier matchup because I can grind them out and slow down the game. Both of them also getting turn 2 access to Dark Confidant also didn't help things.
I stuck around for my other two matches just to see exactly if my deck could win and how quickly. Rounds 3 and 4 were both against Mono-White decks, Emeria and Soul Sisters respectfully. Three words best described my experiences with both of those decks: Nothing happens... slowly.
So Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx was effectively a Wastes the majority of the time. In my first two matches, Devotion was very little so getting large amounts of mana or multiple elemental tokens off Master of Waves never happened.
However, an all star in this deck was Invisible Stalker. Hexproof is still a very relevant thing and the fact that I can still push in free damage with it, is awesome. One of the things I did with this deck was remove Treasure Mage from the list and that was probably the biggest mistake of all. I missed that card so much. Tutoring for the big artifact you need is one of the big reasons why you run this deck to begin with. Without it, the deck feels empty.
