Cool list so far!

Here are a couple card suggestions/easy upgrades:

Commander's Sphere & Darksteel Ingot replace the lockets for them :)

Negate & Counterspell are cheap counters and I'm sure you'll enjoy them. Replace disdainful stroke.

Swiftfoot Boots Make Jeleva hexproof and haste, you want to make sure she attacks and no one bounces her away.

First thing I would personally invest in after those cards is a manabase that doesn't come in tap as much.

You have a goods amount of draw and killer spells.

I hope this helps!

Thanks, those are some really helpful suggestions. I had the lockets because I used to have a lot less carddraw, but you're right, Commander's Sphere and Darksteel Ingot make a lot more sense right now. I just bought both of them a couple of days ago so it's an easy switch :)

How many counterspells do you think would make sense to run in a deck like this? Is 1 fine, considering you can often copy an opponents counterspell if they try to counter you, with spells such as Reverberate?

I did use to have Swiftfoot Boots in my deck, but I took it out for Lightning Greaves. Would it be better to run both for the consistency? I only have 3-4 other creatures worth removing, and my playgroup play very little spot removal

I'm working on slowly adding some better lands, mostly the cheaper shock lands and check lands for now. A work in progress, you could say

Again, thanks a lot for your help, I very much appreciate it (:

This actually looks pretty fun! One card I think would be awesome in here is Mirage Mirror. You would be able to copy an opponent's enchantment that would benifit you somehow or copy a creature for a big blocker/attacker or for it's great trigger or whatever man! This card is becoming a staple in all my edh decks.. It's just so versatile.

Ah, that's not a bad suggestion! I guess that in worst case you can always copy a Gilded Lotus or Thran Dynamo for that 1 extra mana. At 0.3 euro's I'll just buy one and try to see what I can cut for it. Probably Worst Fears

Thanks a lot ^^

I have pretty similar deck and I have to say, one card I've had a lot of fun with is Cruel Entertainment, but my kicker is I always have to target myself. If my two opponents realize it's in both of their interests not to screw with each other, they wont, so I target myself so we can have a bit of fun. It felt bad casting Worst Fears off of Jeleva, but CE is super fun. Mind's Dilation is also a good one.

I love Mind's Dilation. Definietly a card I wanna put in. Fits very well with the theme too! I had very little success with Worst Fear overall. The few times I did get to cast it I couldn't really do much on my opponents turn. But Cruel Entertainment does look a lot more entertaining though :D

I'd definitely throw in more haste sources!! it's a great feeling when you can cast Jeleva and then immediately attack with her. i recommend:

also some board wipes would be good just to keep the board clear and kill Jeleva too. that way you can recast her for more spells!

also i would definitely give Stolen Identity a good look, because you basically cast it twice at the same time with her. Cast it with Jeleva's ability, then cipher it on to her. Once she deals damage to an opponent, you can then cast the spell a second time right away. Super cool synergy and a great way to ramp or get some creatures on board.

and then my last suggestion, for now, is Wildfire Eternal. this card is so good and it's a great way to cheat out big spells from your hand. i've actually made copies of him and was able to cast upwards of 4 big spells a turn. Super fun card.

If you're curious, you can look at my list. it is Jeleva and the deck that gets hated out.

iComet Storm and Stroke of Genius are so much better x cost wincons than torment, hell even Exsanguinate is infinitely more consistent and potent storm can easily hit a table for 40 and stroke can easily deck people and theres no randomness to either, torment is not really a great card overall so you definitely shouldn't use it as a main wincon to build around, the other options arent pricy either and you can always run all 4

January 1, 2019 7:42 p.m.

Sinken says... #10

Stroke of Genius doesn't work as a win condition, as it only kills one player. It's possible to use on myself as draw though, so I can see that. I can see the argument for Comet Storm and Exsanguinate, but... why do you not like Torment? There's no randomness to it either, and if I can't combo off and I get into a lategame, Torment of Hailfire can potentially kill people from 11 mana much more easily than any of the others. Though I should probably run Stroke and Exsanguinate aswell

January 1, 2019 8:14 p.m.

hkhssweiss says... #11

I would actually disagree on Stroke of Genius being better than Torment of Hailfire. Torment for X=40 is most likely death on a table rather than Stroking X=40 which can only target one player and even if they survive with 3 life, their hand and board state is virtually nil.

January 1, 2019 8:18 p.m.

sure but colorwise Exsanguinate does the job 10 times as efficiently and Comet Storm is more reliable too, plus Stroke of Genius + Fork self with Laboratory Maniac is easy wins, lab maniac kinda being the best card in jeleva especially with Doomsday, point is those 3 reliably do there job every single cast, torment is super situational and token decks are extremely common in edh. sure torment is better than stroke but in nonblack decks stroke is very common in cedh and normal edh

and again he needs more wincons than just torment anyways so running both plus comet storm isnt a bad idea.

anyways im done with my suggestions im not here to argue

Sinken says... #13

But the point here is to use infinite mana (that is tutored) to make Torment a guaranteed kill. Unless I play Jeleva a ton, and Echo Storm a gilded lotus, Torment and Exsanguinate are both probably going to fail killing my opponent. Lab man + Stroke + Fork is a 3 card combo that needs 45 mana ++ to win with. So with infinite mana all of them get the job done equally well? I do agree that I should atleast be running Exsanguinate in addition, though. We don't play anything close to cedh, and nothing like Doomsday combos, so which x spell I choose doesn't matter too much, I believe

I like Soothsaying with Jeleva. There are some really good new cards that would be fantastic with her. Blade of Selves. While you don't get her attacks, you do get her etb ability and the chance to use all those cards. Helm of the Host does give you an etb and an extra attack and trigger. I think if you ran a few smaller spells Thousand-Year Storm could be insane. I also like Oblivion Sower as Jeleva tends to hit a lot of lands. I also loved Contempt in my Jeleva deck to reset the cards in exile.

Sinken says... #15

I do think more effects like Soothsaying would have been amazing with Jeleva when I was still playing tons of big spells, but sadly I decided she was no longer the right Grixis commander for me, and swapped her out with Kess, Dissident Mage

Though, I don't think Helm of the Host would do anything? The ETB is useless as the cost to play her is 0, so 0 cards would be exiled, and she doesn't share a card pool with the original Jeleva. I should probably look at Thousand-Year Storm though, now that Kess is the commander and I'm cutting CMC. Thanks for the suggestion ^^

Heya Sinken!

Kess is super fun. There is a lot of cards you do and her ability to reuse them from the yard just makes it so much better. Here are some cards off the top of my head that you can consider using.

You can also take a look at my Kess deck if you want some ideas as well!

Thanks again for a lot of good suggestions. I recently pulled a Gamblefrom an UMA pack, so I'll definietly be trying it. The rituals are also probably very good now that I run Kess. I played around with Cabal Ritual in Jeleva but I never really reached Treshhold when I actually needed the mana

I also love all the cantrips like Ponder, Preordain, and Gitaxian Probe. The sellers I've bought for just never haven't really had them at anything less than way too much when I've looked. But I agree that they're all pretty much staples in Kess.

Do you have any suggestions for cards you feel like might not fit in my list? :)

Sinken

Yeah for Kess there would be a couple cards you can cut. High CMC instants or sorceries are fine as you can at least cast them later on with Kess, but other high CMC spells I would cut.

Here are some possible cuts I would consider:

Hope that helps :)

I ended up cutting 5 of the ones you mentioned here, after having had a drought from EDH for a while. I'm still considering cutting all big CMC permaments and Cruel Ultimatum + Decree of Pain in order to play Ad Nauseam . But then I'd also have to replace Blasphemous Act which is a slight problem because there's always someone playing a creature heavy deck in my group. But it would also help with the inclusion of Bolas's Citadel , which I plan on testing out

hkhssweiss says... #20

How big is the creatures your group plays? You can always run cards like Rolling Earthquake , Earthquake , Toxic Deluge , Magmaquake , Anger of the Gods , Pyroclasm as boardwipes. It won't hurt the Ad Naus curve that bad, and they are great as well since some of them won't hit Kess.

Sinken says... #21

There's a guy who loves big creatures, so out of those I think Toxic Deluge would be very sweet. There's a few token decks too, so wiping them out for x = 1 sounds sweet

Awwwww thanks for the token Sinken <3

You should join our discord to spawn some ideas!

As a pointer, Notion Thief + Windfall does not leave your opponents with one card. The only draw Notion Thief doesn't steal is the one during their draw steps, so you still get to steal all draws from Windfall.

June 30, 2019 7:45 a.m.

Wouldn't Blasphemous Act be better because the cmc is lowered for each creature on the board. The spell isn't being cast for 9cmc. Likely it's being being cast for 5 or less cmc as a boardwipe. Im thinking of running Liliana's Triumph for when creature count is lower.

July 17, 2019 7:11 p.m.

Sinken says... #25

What card do you think Blasphemous act would be better than? As you can see, I currently still have it in my list :)
