Aether Revolt Update —March 7, 2017

It has been too long since I've had a chance to sit down with my decks and tweak them. I've been noticing some issues while playing the deck over the course of the past several months. The first is I'm 100% not running enough removal which admittedly is a usual problem for all of my new decks. There aren't many removal spells that I'm dying to use in EDH. I like to be the problem. That said, there's really not enough in here to take on powerful artifacts and enchantments. I've been debating adding in Aura Shards but I always find that it draws too much aggro from the table. Krosan Grip and Dispeller's Capsule may make it in to the deck in the future but for now I went with:

The stomphowler draws me a card off of Temur Ascendancy which is probably strictly worse than Acidic Slime but we'll try it. The other issue has been not having a sac outlet. While creature theft has not been that much of a problem, keeping my permanents in my zones (even if the zone is the graveyard) is preferable to dying to an Insurrection or Rakdos Charm.

Both Perilous Forays and Greater Good are solid sac outlets but the latter requires a higher concentration of large creatures so:

Finally, cool things from Aether Revolt! There are so many cards I want to try out from this set. Regrettably, not that many of those cards fit into this deck. The only thing I'm adding is:

While a good amount of my creatures are low in power, even +3 cards and a free 5-drop for 5 mana seems absurdly solid. Other cards I want to try out like Renegade Rallier, Rishkar, Peema Renegade, Sram's Expertise, and Felidar Guardian will have to wait for other decks.

Let me know what your favorite cards are from Aether Revolt! Also, which reprints are you most excited about in Modern Masters 2017?

Yoboy2010 Hey thanks for checking it out!

While I do like Sunbond, I think it puts too much focus onto one creature and with creatures being the most easily removable cards on a board state, the Sunbonded creature would likely get Path to Exile or Dreadbore before I could use it. I have a fear that it also is not as impactful as I want for a 4-drop enchantment.

Thanks for the suggestion though!

Just built a deck similar to this and found Admonition Angel to be rediculously powerful. Turning a land drop into a removal spell quickly shuts down any creature based deck. The last ability returning them to the battlefield when it dies can be anyoing especially against blink decks.

Roil Elemental was also disgustingly good but turned out to be sort of a non-bo with Admonition Angel so I'd only run one of them

Great deck design and card choices! Flavorful and fun is a win in my book!
