Gisela, Blade of Goldnight Commander

Commander / EDH RW (Boros)

My EDH deck based on Gisela, Blade of Goldnight. To date, this deck has gone off exactly once, but I remain optimistic. In general, it seems like the challenge is having too little to do in the early game, so I'm hoping to address that with the addition of Soul Warden and Soul's Attendant, which should hopefully provide some extra buffer until I get going.

Basically, the deck is full on Boros with lots of token generation & some burn as spot removal or just good old-fashioned damage to the face. The early game starts with small drops such as Figure of Destiny, Boros Guildmage, Sunhome Guildmage, Stun Sniper, Archetype of Aggression, Archetype of Courage, and Boros Reckoner, as well some setup with Impact Tremors, Brave the Sands, Swiftfoot Boots, & Darksteel Plate. Hopefully these will be enough to keep you slightly protected.

There are tons of midgame creatures to drop, with Agrus Kos, Wojek Veteran, Balefire Liege, Firemane Avenger, Geist-Honored Monk, Iroas, God of Victory, Nobilis of War, and Tajic, Blade of the Legion being the some of the most important. Other fun enchantments like Assemble the Legion and Cathars' Crusade are incredibly useful as well, the longer the game goes on.

Finally, once enough mana is available, you'll want to pull out your commander. Gisela, Blade of Goldnight shakes things up instantly, and causes a hearty dose of chaos between the other players, as they suddenly all get much more out of attacking each other than attacking you. Having either Swiftfoot Boots or Darksteel Plate out to prevent Gisela from getting axed too quickly is useful, as is the occasional one-off protection from Ajani's Presence or Boros Charm.

Once you have Gisela out, you'll want to throw down the big guns with heavy duty token-makers such as Increasing Devotion, Secure the Wastes, White Sun's Zenith, or Entreat the Angels. These armies all become extremely formidable in the presence of their commander.

Finally, some last minute burn can help you get through for the win. Street Spasm, Mizzium Mortars, Brightflame, Aurelia's Fury, and to some degree Vandalblast can all act as one-sided board wipes in your favor. Additionally, double combat effects from Aurelia, the Warleader, Savage Beating, and Waves of Aggression can double the damage, while Iroas, God of Victory, Akroma's Memorial, and Master Warcraft can all make sure you get through. If all else fails, Soulblast can be a last-ditch effort to destroy the most tenacious of opponents who simply refuse to die by more traditional means.

That's pretty much it. As I mentioned, it's gone off exactly once, but it's always been fun to play. Definitely intended for casual games.
