The Burn Brothers

Standard Burn UR (Izzet)

Sideboard

I see you standing there, thinking to yourself: "Hm. How can I have fun, win quite a bit, and strike it rich in Flavortown?" Wonder no more, compadres. I'm here to solve all of your Magic mysteries. Now, given, this is only a somewhat competitive deck and this isn't modeled to be taking home any tournaments but it's fun as hell to sling spells and do all kinds of damage while doing it, which is kind of Izzet's thing and has been for a crazy amount of time. This time, things have changed to make things more direct: this time we have a full suite of burn damage, removal, counters, and the drakes to finish the job. Of course, one of the largest changes I made to this deck since I last updated it was the add of Search for Azcanta and I'm not sure why I didn't run it in the first place. This just makes things so much easier. Right now, this deck is being played primarily on Magic Arena right now and it's doing very well in its current form. I do plan on taking this to FNM before rotation.

So, I had kind of a rude awakening with this deck over the weekend, it would seem: I thought that when a card like Thousand-Year Storm copies a spell, those spells were cast, albeit not from hand. Turns out that, according to rulings from the Gatherer, that is untrue, therefore some of the damage numbers I presented are a little exaggerated. I am strongly considering the removal of Thousand-Year Storm entirely because of this misunderstanding but it's still a nice finisher for turn 7, if a game ever lasts that long in Standard. I mean, I may keep it in the sideboard with, say, a Banefire or two, to just say that if I haven't killed my opponent by turn 7 and I have, say, a Field and a Snipe or two on the field, still, casting Banefire for 6 into X, copying, and then pinging for, in this example, five more, you're still looking at 17 damage in one stack, which is great. Hopefully this evolves a little.
