Eccentricity in the Undercity

What is Eccentricity in the Undercity? Show

Eccentricity in the Undercity is a legacy combo deck. The goal of the deck is to beat the opponent on our first turn. We need to get 4 mana, at least one of them black, then cast Balustrade Spy or Undercity Informer to mill our library (because there are no lands). As we mill ourselves, our 4 Narcomoebas come onto the battlefield. We sacrifice 3 to Dread Return targeting the Angel of Glory's Rise . In turn, that returns Azami, Lady of Scrolls and Laboratory Maniac to the battlefield and then you use Azami, Lady of Scrolls's draw ability to win. This works because Azami, Lady of Scrolls's ability is a triggered ability and thus is not affected by summoning sickness.

Why should you play Eccentricity in the Undercity? Show

Eccentricity in the Undercity is very cheap for a legacy deck. If you go first, you can only be stopped by Force of Will and Surgical Extraction. Even if you don't go first, the deck is very resilient to discard spells and must have a large amount of cards in the opponent's sideboard to stop it.

What should we be looking for in a hand? Show

You should be looking for a hand with Balustrade Spy or Undercity Informer in it and be able to get enough mana to cast it. It is not advised to take a hand with Angel of Glory's Rise , Azami, Lady of Scrolls, or Laboratory Maniac.

What hands should we keep? Show

The best hands have at least 4 mana in them, which we can get via Simian Spirit Guide, etc. and using Wild Cantor or Manamorphose to fix our mana colors and Dark Ritual, Cabal Ritual, and Tinder Wall to advance our mana. We should then be able to get and a and be able to cast an Undercity Informer or Balustrade Spy, which you absolutely need to have in your hand to win.
