Do you like big stompy things? Do you like armies upon armies of tokens?? Do you like suddenly blowing up your opponent for stupid amounts of damage??? And do you wish certain commanders could be more in the spotlight? Then this deck is right for you!

Thromok the Insatiable is a very simple yet unique commander, being practically nothing but a huge and gigantic body (that Gruul usually absolutely loves). So what makes him unique and the best option for this sort of deck?

Well, the fact that he can be absolutely huge! For this deck, I've decided to abuse those huge stats as much as I can with Warstorm Surge, Pandemonium, and other such abilities. And so, he's not just this huge stompy beatstick - he's the wincon. Once he can surely be large enough, him just entering can easily do enough damage to kill anybody that's not playing Oloro (And even kill them in some cases).

Strengths:

  • Consistent Win Condition with a lot of support for it, a few different "copies" of it, and a lot of card draw to get to it. Plus, it only requires you to play the commander along with one other card.

  • A lot of card draw and tutors to keep the deck fairly consistent

  • Most cards in the deck are high impact, even without needing to combo with other cards. The combos just make them a much larger threat

  • High burst-damage potential that doesn't require combat

  • A reasonable amount of protection for your own cards with things that make your spells and permanents untargetable

  • An infinite combo with Squirrel Nest + Earthcraft allows for a potentially instant win

Weaknesses:

  • The game plan requires a strong board presence, so board wipes on top of board wipes hurt a lot

  • Not the best at recovering or catching back up once behind since a lot of cards require time to ramp up

  • Occasionally cards start to feel a bit "win more" rather than keeping your advantage stable as it is, which can be punishable

  • Tends to only eliminate one player at a time (without going infinite) and has enough resources to eliminate a very finite amount of threats, so it lacks a bit in multiplayer at times
