W/B Aristocrats (modern budget $180)

Modern Aggro Budget Competitive W/B (Orzhov)

Sergal

Description

Let me clear something up before people comment that a $180 dollar deck is not budget. Look at the top 6 decks in modern right now, and then come back and talk to me. $180 and still competitive is a steal in modern, so lets not complain. Let's get to it.

This is a competitive budget White/ Black aristocrats deck. Being aristocrats means that we have creatures that say "sacrifice a creature" in order to fulfill an effect. Lets go over some of those options.

Viscera Seer: This card is our best option. Its a one-drop, so it can effectively help us to conserve our mana, and assist us in potentially dropping multiple spells in a turn. Its also very good against opposing removal (especially Path to Exile), because we can sac the creature that the removal is targeting, and get a scry, helping us to find the cards we want.

Cartel Aristocrat: free sac outlet like the seer, except this one gives itself protection. really good at blocking enemy fatties, and killing smaller creatures.

Nantuko Husk: Can be a finisher. Dropping this into a board with 5 creatures (one of which can be a Blood Artist) get to attacks with it next turn, and watch your opponent cry if they cant do anything. Its also not very prone to opposing damage-based removal, as its sac ability pumps it up.

Okay, so now that we've got the aristocrats down, lets get into some of the crap we want to be sacrificing.

Doomed Traveler: 1 drop 1/1 that replaces itself with a flier. Probably the best option we have.

Tidehollow Sculler: hand disruption. Takes care of what we are worried most about, but gets returned when it's irrelevant to us.

Carrier Thrall: 2/1 body for 2, replaces itself when it dies. Just a worse doomed traveler I guess

Now lets get in to some Draining and gaining, which is what this deck likes to do most of all.

Blood Artist: gross.

Zulaport Cutthroat: less gross, but basically the same effectiveness in this deck.

Onto the other spells;

Lingering Souls: if this card needs any explanation, I encourage you to play a bit more modern. This card is an absolute bomb, and gives us pressure, and more cards to sacrifice. It makes 1 for 1-ing impossible, and is just all around a powerhouse in the format.

Inquisition of Kozilek and Thoughtseize: we need hand disruption. It helps us pick apart enemy resources and threats before they become potent. It also helps us to maintain information about what our opponent is planning.

Fatal Push and Path to Exile: the two best removal spells in the format if we are not counting Lightning Bolt.

Hidden Stockpile: helps us to consistently have tokens to sacrifice. also a sac outlet on its own (one that scrys and digs for us), but mainly just here for the consistent tokens and refill of resources.

For a deck that is based on a "budget", this deck is super fucking good. It destroys midrange and agro variants, and fair very well against most control variants. If you are looking to get into modern, but don't want to spend a million fucking dollars to do so, I recommend giving this deck a try. atleast playtest it and see how you fair in some of the meta.

Any and all comments are welcomed. if you have any recommendations, please let me know what to take out for it, and why your recommendation is the better option. If you like the deck, give it an upvote. Thanks in advanced for the support!

I've just bought into a variation of this deck, minus the Thoughtseize. I'm liking it thus far, I like the Nantuko Husk and may try a couple in my deck. I'm thinking of trying the Hidden Stockpile too. +1 from me :-D
