UB Alchemy is a pauper control deck. The core of the deck consists of 3-4 of the titular Forbidden Alchemy, 4 Augur of Bolas, and 4 Gurmag Angler. The rest of the deck is very customizable and can be easily tailored to fit your preferences/metagame.

Though regardless of what you choose, the deck's plan is still the same: say no to everything they try to do, then slap them in the face with a fish four times and you win.

  • Forbidden Alchemy: Powerful card selection that simultaneously fills the graveyard to enable other cards. Plus, it can also be flashed back late game.
  • Mystical Teachings: A powerful tutor that can be flashed back late game. We only carry one because it costs 4 mana but can be effectively used twice.
  • Augur of Bolas: A 1/3 blocker lets us dig for stuff.
  • Accumulated Knowledge: Card draw that gets better late game and synergizes well with Forbidden Alchemy.
  • Soul Manipulation: Grave recursion that doubles as a counterspell.
  • Counterspell: counters anything for just two blue.
  • Prohibit: Another good counterspell. Prohibit is better than Counterspell in counter wars due to being less color intensive; casting two counterspells in one turn requires a whopping four blue mana, far too color intensive for this deck's manabase, whereas two Prohibits only needs two blue. If your meta is very counter heavy it would be best to run 4 Prohibits and 2 counterspells instead of the other way around
  • Soul Manipulation: A counterspell that doubles as grave recursion.
  • Bojuka Bog: Asymmetrical graveyard hate strapped to a land; an audo-include in every black pauper deck.
  • Disfigure: -2/-2 for only one mana. Kills most early game creatures very efficiently.
  • Echoing Decay: Costs more than Disfigure, but destroys token strategies.
  • Chainer's Edict: A very powerful forced sacrifice effect. Its low cost makes it good early/mid game, and it's flashback makes it good late game. Unfortunately it does very little against creature swarm decks like elves.
  • Diabolic Edict: This trades Chainer's Edict's flashback for instant speed. It share's Chainer's Edict's weakness to creature swarm decks.
  • Tragic Slip: With morbid enabled this kills every relevant creature outside of Bogles for only one mana. However, you shouldn't be afraid to use this on x/1s.
  • Doom Blade: Kills things that die to Doom Blade.
  • Ghastly Demise: This deck fills its graveyard very quickly, making this a sure kill in most situations.
  • Agony Warp: Another piece of removal that can sometimes act as a fog by killing one attacker and weakening another.
  • Evincar's Justice: A sweeper with buyback. Just be sure to watch your life total.
  • Gurmag Angler: The deck's only wincon, but as one mana 5/5 it makes a very good control finisher.
  • Bojuka Bog: Asymmetrical graveyard hate strapped to a land; an audo-include in every black pauper deck.
  • Dismal Backwater: The best UB dual printed at common.
  • Dimir Aqueduct: Lets us get 26 mana out of 23 lands. There are also some fringe scenarios where you can use it bounce a Bojuka Bog to use it again.
  • Island: The most broken card in magic.
  • Swamp: Lets us cast our black cards.
