Ideally your opening hand will have at least 1 mana producing elf (Quirion Rangers counts. You can tap the forest for mana, return the forest and replay it. You're up 1 mana) and one forest.

You can then combo off, playing more and more elves until you overrun your opponent. Lead the Stampede will help refill your hand too.

A neat combo is Nettle Sentinel with Birchlore Rangers. Tap the Nettle Sentinel and Birchlore Rangers to make a green mana, spend that mana to cast a one drop elf, the Sentinel untaps, tap the new elf and the sentinel to make another mana with the Birchlore Rangers and keep going. That's right, Birchlore Rangers ability is different, summoning sickness doesn't affect it!
