Welcome to the Boom Engine.

This is a artifacts deck based around various interactions and a couple combos. I want to start of by saying no, the land base is not ideal, but I lack the funds to make it so. Anyway, back to the deck -- so here's my card choices:

The spells:

  • Ensoul Artifact - The aggro. With Darksteel Citadel and Ornithopter in the deck, a turn two ensoul comes down to either having a 5/5 indestructible, which will survive most of the duration of the game, or having an evasive flying 5/5 that's ready to attack on the turn you made him.

  • Searing Blood - One of the more potent burn spells in standard, it kills creatures and bolts your opponent.

  • Magma Jet - Sister to the blood in here, this burn spell let's me set up important draws.

  • Tormenting Voice - This looting spell found its way into my deck after some hard testing, and on top of giving me the necessary card draw this deck really needs in order to go off, this card enables another card really well.

  • Treasure Cruise - Yeah, I'm running "ancestral recall lite". Tormenting voice while drawing me cards sets up for me to dig even further in my deck later for less mana with this card, and with all my chumpthopters dying, servants being sacrificed, and Shrapnel blasting, this card really is the definition of cheap labor.

  • Howl of the Horde - Quite the underdog of the deck, this card enables some really cool things to happen. For starters, that one mana treasure cruise you delved for becomes a four mana: draw nine cards spell. It let's Searing blood kill 3 chumps, and throw 9 in their face. Here's the fun one: Before you shrapnel blast your Scuttling Doom Engine, Attack with it, and then cast this. If the attack goes through you've dealt 6 damage to them. Then you raid cast this, then shrapnel blast the engine. Scuttles will die, dealing 6 damage because he exploded. That's 12 so far. Now add 15 for each copy of shrapnel blast (which, by the way does not force you to sacrifice 2 more artifacts, since Howl is copying the effect and sacrificing artifacts is part of the Shrapnel blasts cost.) 25 is where we land on the total damage for that combo. That's not unreasonable for this deck, when this and Shrapnel blast only cost 5 together.

  • Shrapnel Blast - This here is the core of the deck, that enables such devastating masses of cool to happen. Dealing 5 damage at instant speed for 2 mana makes it the most powerful burn spell at the 2-drop spot. And with such cool artifacts to sacrifice, why not? The first one for mention is...

  • Ugin's Nexus - 5 damage to a player or creature and I get an extra turn? I can convoke it? Cool I'll take it.

Creatures

  • Scuttling Doom Engine - The heart and literal bomb of the deck, this dude, while being evasive and big, makes a great target for my blasts. Doom engine dies and turns my 5 damage spell into an 11 damage spell, or even 17 if he dealt damage. That can mean game a lot of the time.

  • Generator Servant - He let's me drop my doom engine earlier while allowing it to attack faster too. Honestly, a really good card in the deck.

  • Chief Engineer - Doom engine coming out early is pretty important.

  • Ornithopter - Perfect turn one creature as the next turn I'll want to turn it into a 5/5 and beat face.

The deck functions with an Ensoul doing work for a couple turns while trying to set up your boom engine. Having to deal with a 4-turn clock is hard enough while also having to figure away around the other timer brewing in my hand and on my field. The boom engine is coming.

Currently I'm looking for a sufficient draw spell to replace Divination as well as just cards to make the deck better.
