This combo has been seen before. Content creators like SaffronOlive have highlighted similar decks (eg. RallyFenza), and this kind of deck is not unlike
Melira, Sylvok Outcast
decks of the past, or
Chord of Calling
decks of the present. In a similar fashion, most people are familiar with Aristocrats decks. While this deck is nothing completely new, the pieces for its construction are better than they were before.
Vizier of Remedies
is a fantastic upgrade over
Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit
, in that it is not double-white, making it much easier on our mana-base and curve.
The deck is not for the faint of heart, however, as assembling a four-creature-minimum combo is no small task. Especially considering that similar style decks, like Counters Company, can be just as effective with fewer moving pieces, and a higher resistance to graveyard hate (though not entirely, as we could still combo after a single
Surgical Extraction
or exiling of the graveyard, whereas Counters Company would lose their combo if they lost their one of
Walking Ballista
).
So who is this deck for then? Considering we could just be playing
Devoted Druid
and
Walking Ballista
, this deck is for anyone who scoffs in the face of reason, and just plays what they want (like me!). Not to say that this deck can't be competitive, as we have an edge over Counters Company in that our combo can go off at instant speed via
Collected Company
or
Rally the Ancestors
. If you want to win with this deck you'll just have to work a little harder and be a bit luckier.
-
Satyr Wayfinder
: Wayfinder stocks our graveyard and makes sure we hit our land drops.
-
Grisly Salvage
: Similarly to
Satyr Wayfinder
,
Grisly Salvage
stocks our graveyard and finds our lands, but it can also find us a combo piece when we are ready.
-
Collected Company
: Keeps us chugging along, churning through our deck and finding our pieces. Along with
Rally the Ancestors
,
Collected Company
gives us instant speed combo potential.
-
Zulaport Cutthroat
/
Blood Artist
: These guys do our direct damage to the opponent when we bring back
Safehold Elite
over and over. The 4/1 split hedges our bets against
Leyline of Sanctity
, considering
Zulaport Cutthroat
doesn't target, and might protect us from a
Surgical Extraction
of one of the two.
-
Safehold Elite
: Triggers
Zulaport Cutthroat
/
Blood Artist
over and over when we control
Vizier of Remedies
.
-
Kitchen Finks
: Fulfils the same role as
Safehold Elite
, but at a higher CMC.
Kitchen Finks
can often be easier to combo with, considering we can gain infinite life with just a
Vizier of Remedies
+
Viscera Seer
or
Cartel Aristocrat
. This combo won't outright win us the game, but it should give us inevitability (barring graveyard hate), in that we will eventually find all of our pieces to directly kill our opponent or just beat them to death with weenies.
-
Rally the Ancestors
: Rally allows us to fill our graveyard and then pull all of our pieces out at instant speed, comboing right then and there. This can be achieved as early as turn four.
-
Return to the Ranks
: Along with
Rally the Ancestors
,
Return to the Ranks
allows us to fill our graveyard and fight a battle of attrition. We can fight through removal if given enough time.
-
Viscera Seer
: Seer enables our combo in more ways than one. He can serve as our sacrifice outlet, as well as scry us to whatever other enablers we might need. Say, for example, we could sacrifice our board on turn three, finding the
Rally the Ancestors
we needed on top to bring back our combo pieces to win the game on turn four.
-
Cartel Aristocrat
: Similarly to the split of
Zulaport Cutthroat
and
Blood Artist
,
Viscera Seer
fulfills its role better than
Cartel Aristocrat
, but hedges our bets against
Surgical Extraction
and provides us additional sacrifice outlets.
-
Vizier of Remedies
: This is the card that allows us to sacrifice our
Safehold Elite
s and
Kitchen Finks
indefinitely. She is better than
Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit
because of her much more forgiving non-double-whiteness.
-
Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit
: We still play one Anafenza because her and
Vizier of Remedies
are functionally the same in our deck, and yet again as a hedge against
Surgical Extraction
and its like effects. The double white might hurt us at some point, but it's less likely when she is a one of. Additionally, she might help us beat down more effectively if our strategy were to be reduced to an aggro plan.
-
Eternal Witness
: Witness gets us back a combo piece, or allows us to dig deeper by buying back a
Collected Company
.
-
Lands - We don't need very many of them, considering our
Satyr Wayfinder
s and
Grisly Salvage
s.
Razorverge Thicket
could stand in the place of a few shocklands and basics, I just don't own any.
Geier Reach Sanitarium
gives us a little more digging power.
You can tailor the sideboard to whatever your meta dictates, but the side-board I've constructed is a pretty good "catch-all" (currently?) if you're going in blind.
-
Abrupt Decay
:
Rest in Peace
is very good against us.
Abrupt Decay
is also just a good answer to a lot of other combo pieces and modern staples.
-
Burrenton Forge-Tender
: Gives us an answer to
Anger of the Gods
and similar effects. We aren't really afraid of things like
Lightning Bolt
though. Could be a two of.
-
Kambal, Consul of Allocation
: Kambal is a good answer to Storm. We could maybe afford another sideboard slot if you have a lot of Storm in your meta, but one is a good hedge as we have a lot of ways of finding/recurring him.
-
Kataki, War's Wage
: A fine answer against Affinity and maybe Lantern Control.
Kataki, War's Wage
would probably be second
Stony Silence
, but we can hit Kataki with
Collected Company
and
Return to the Ranks
.
-
Path to Exile
: I'm not really scared of any particular creature that Path can hit (at least none that spring to mind), but I'll know it when I see it. Maybe
Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite
.
-
Reclamation Sage
: Gets rid of
Rest in Peace
, fights Affinity and Lantern as well as any other enchantment/artifact dependent decks.
Reclamation Sage
works particularly well in our deck considering we can hit it with
Collected Company
and recur it from our graveyard.
-
Stony Silence
: See:
Kataki, War's Wage
.
-
Tidehollow Sculler
: Fights other combo decks/control and we can find it with
Collected Company
, get it back with
Return to the Ranks
or
Rally the Ancestors
. You can also do a nifty trick with
Tidehollow Sculler
in an Aristocrats deck where you sacrifice it with its enter the battlefield trigger on the stack, then its leave the battlefield trigger resolves before the ETB and you can exile a card from your opponents hand forever.
-
Voice of Resurgence
: Voice is one of the best cards we can bring in against graveyard hate (probably not
Rest in Peace
though), as we can fight a more fair game by just beating down with our creatures and incidentally draining our opponent with
Zulaport Cutthroat
and
Blood Artist
.
And there you have it. If you have any suggestions feel free to leave them below, let me know what you think of the deck or post a deck of your own in a similar vein/strategy. Thanks for looking!
Note of potential edit: Could replace 4
Collected Company
for 4 of the newly spoiled Stitcher's Supplier. Would make the deck faster and more consistent, as we may just be able to tear the combo out of our graveyard on turn 3-4, instead of banking on CoCo. Definitely want to test with this new card.
