This deck is created because I feel that -1/-1 counters is an interesting strategy that falls into a more niche Rakdos playstyle. Because of this, I feel that The Scorpion God is easily one of the most interesting Rakdos Commanders.

Mass Counter generation Show

Archfiend of Ifnir: Provides great generation with the right hand, but still a great threat when you can't use it to supply the board with counters.

Carnifex Demon: In my opinion, the best counter generator in the deck. At the low cost of , you can apply one counter from him to every other creature in the game. He can act as constant board wipes, or just a way to get the counter train rolling.

Harbinger of Night: Plain and simple, a -1,-1 counter for everything every turn.

Midnight Banshee: Same as Harbinger of Night, but it has a bigger body, Wither, and only hits nonblacks.

Soul Snuffers: A great way to start your incremental value early on, or a good board wipe for low-toughness go wide strategies.

Black Sun's Zenith: Short and simple, I don't think it needs explaining.

Chandra's Ignition: Pair this with a creature that has a big body and Wither/Infect, and that is a lot of counters.

Everlasting Torment: Oh boi. The guy that convinced me to actually make this deck. The Scorpion God doesn't care who put counters on what, as long as something with counters dies. With this, everyone's combat can help you. Every time someone blocks, or deals damage, it pushes you forward.

Counter payoffs Show

The Scorpion God: CARD ADVANTAAAAAAAAGE.

Kulrath Knight: Not allowing your opponents' creatures to attack or block can be disgustingly controlling, and can easily buy you enough time to build your forces.

Necroskitter: An absolutely disgusting card in this strategy, you can effectively steal the entire board with a well timed boardwipe.

Crumbling Ashes: This card is a great way to keep singular threats in check when you aren't able to kill anything off en masse.

Nest of Scarabs: You can create so many little critters incidentally with your token generation. It can honestly be ridiculous.

Sudden Spoiling: A great way to ruin someone's board with more minimal counter generation. Split Second also helps get around the pesky blue mages.

The last way is just straight up removal/neutering. Not much else to say on that.

Why Persist/Wither instead of Infect? Show

Quite honestly, it just felt cooler this way. Infect could certainly help you race much faster than without, especially with the proliferates that are in the deck, but it just felt more lackluster. It feels a lot cooler getting to use these cards that don't see much play, as The Scorpion God turns them into a sort of delayed cantrip.

Beware decking yourself out! Show

This deck can draw cards. A lot of cards. So many in fact, that you may want to put in some ways to shuffle your graveyard back into your deck. If you aren't careful, you can get into an infinite loop with Blowfly Infestation + Nest of Scarabs that can end the game for you. If you board wipe with counters, Nest of Scarabs will trigger and make an amount of 1/1s equal to the amount of counters, then Blowfly Infestation forces you to put a counter on a creature for each creature that died. You then have to put them on the 1/1s, which makes more 1/1s and triggers Infestation again. Neither of these are "May" abilities, so if you don't kill off The Scorpion God, You will deck yourself out. Even if you do, you will be stuck in an infinite amount of iterations if no one can break it, and the game will end in a tie. So beware of this!
