Long Live The Queen

This is a political prison deck that attempts to encourage opponents to attack each other while discouraging the opponents to attack you.

This deck was built as I personally enjoy the monarch mechanic and the effects it has on multiplayer play, and wanted monarch to be in play as soon as possible. As Queen Marchesa is a legendary creature that allows you to become the monarch (thus making the monarch mechanic active for the duration of the game), it was the perfect choice as a commander.

While the deck enjoys the card draw aspect of being the monarch, it is actually in the decks best interests to allow an opponent to steal the monarchy early, as being the monarch encourages opponents to attack that player and you want them to fight each other rather than yourself. Also, as a side benefit, if your opponent is the monarch at the start of your turn while you control your commander you get a deathtouch assassin token meaning you can slowly amass an army while your opponents chisel away at each others life totals as they attempt to swipe the monarchy away from each other.

As you want your opponents to take each other down, the worst thing for you is a board stall where nobody wants to attack anyone. Luckily having access to red mana means you can use cards like Goblin Spymaster and fumiko the lowblood to force them to attack each turn. Because we use these "forced attack" cards, we need to protect ourselves from being attacked. Ghostly prison and crawlspace limits how many creatures can attack you, while cards like no mercy and aurification punishes your opponent for attacking by doing something nasty to their creaturesThe useful thing politically about forcing attacks is that certain players will take these attacks personally and will create their own vendettas to take down the person who attacked them. Timmy doesn't care that the player was forced to attack and if that player attacked you they would lose board state, as Timmy can only see that that person had a choice of attacking two other opponents but decided to hit them. It is useful to have these types of players on the table for this purpose.
