Gisela probably run of the best cards in deck she has flying, first strike and lifelink. Allowing to take some damage and get it back so you are not wasting creatures to block.
Another very important ability is industructible-
Oketra is very useful not only does she have industructible but also double strike. Even if you are not swinging with her she still gives those abilities to the team during combat.
Solemn recruit also has double strike.
Nahiri's machinations at begining of combat gives target creature industructible. So you can protect creatures early game and if Odric is out all are now industructible.
Gideon of the trials also could give industructible if you 0 him or prevents opponent creature from damaging.
Bruna run a bruna for the chance of melding with Gisela late game.
Allthogh the deck is built to use Odric to overwhelm the opponent he is not necessarily essential to win. Many games have been won without him.
