Maybeboard

Description

This is an 1V1 Esper enchantment control. I make Zur (mostly) invulnerable and then lock down the field and eventually establish dominance and swing for the win.

Yes, I know I don't do the infamous combo prevalent in other Zur edh's.

Ethersworn Adjudicator : Immensly powerful card, especially late.

Eight-and-a-Half-Tails: Protects everything I get out.

Aven Mindcensor: Helps to limit what my opponent can search up.

Elite Arcanist: Can take advantage of a powerful instant card and can use it multiple times.

Imprisoned in the Moon: My favorite 3cmc enchantment to tutor up, shuts down a key card or commander and can stop primary strategies.

Virulent Plague: Handy option for taking on Krenko and the like, albeit it does hurt me too, it still helps me in the long run.

Rule of Law: The 3cmc enchantment that has won me more games then any other in this deck, this helps me take advantage of my large stockpile of counter-magic, allows me to pivot nicely with mana-abilities, but most of all it slows down whatever plans my opponent has.

Isochron Scepter: Infamous artifact and the dream is to have Counterspell paired with it, but the other cheap counter-magic is awesome too.

Armageddon: Powerful hate, takes key advantage of Zur's combat trigger to keep developing my board while the opponent struggles.

Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver: Low-curve, high impact PW that importantly exiles the top 3 of an opponents deck, and exiling stuff in EDH is a powerful effect.

There is a potential soft lock you can have with this deck, albeit its not too impervious.

Elite Arcanist coupled with any "all-around" counter magic OR Isochron Scepter with Counterspell and Rule of Law all on the field.

This will literally stop anything your opponent may add to the board during his/her turn such as creatures, planeswalkers, sorceries, artifacts, etc.

However it is vulnerable on your turn where they can cast an instant/flash and make you choose to tap and counter with Arcanist/Scepter in response, leaving it useless on their next turn. Or if something like Ulvenwald Tracker was previously on the board and they force a creature interaction.

However you can keep Arcanist/Scepter available by stockpiling other counter-magic in your hand.

I noticed this lock when I accidentally engaged it in a live game, I simply did not realize it prior to that game.

Thank you for checking out my list, this has been pretty killer so far but any suggestions are welcome, if you like it, please give it a +1!!!

Ehh this strategy is too easy to shut down for competitive edh. Without haste ZUur is too easy to remove before he gets to swing and he is the only card advantage you have access to. You are fully hoping to get to keep Zur while you lock out your opponents and when 3 people are trying to shut you down they probably will. You arn't even running Grasp of Fate or Necropotence

Yes I know this isn't a good list for a 4-pod, this is my 1V1 edh.

Grasp of Fate isn't in here because I have multiple other things that do the same thing albeit only typically a single target, but in 1v1, thats fine.

As for Necropotence, I don't personally own one and nor do I believe its essential to have one in Zur, not that I wouldn't mind having one lol.

It is true, no haste for Zur so on turn 3-4 when I cast him it is a scary time for removal but a majority of decks don't run alot of removal and in the early turns most decks are still developing their board-state so normally he gets to swing on turn 4-5 and starts shutting stuff down.
