Tezz is good just more long game. Im gearing more to an aggro ish side. I think he may belong in sideboard. Been debating him about a week now

Hey there, I've been working on a similar list that utilises Herald of Anguish, Karn, Scion of Urza and Antiquities War as payoffs. These are obviously different decks, but I think the same line of thinking can be applied. I don't have a lot of time on my lunch break, so I'll probs doublepost with some more questions.

I think Sparring Construct is pretty medium as far as 1-drops go, its barely a card beyond T1 and T2, its going to get wiped by Chainwhirler, it's bad at blocking, its kinda crummy. Merchant's Dockhand gives you card selection late, especially when you're playing draw-go vs UWx/UB.

Tezzeret's Touch seems pretty medium in the deck with 22 creatures already, maybe out of the side for control? I think cards like Tezz himself are better for this role though.

Unsummon seems pretty useless when we have Push and Cast Down in our mainboard, probably better as Contempt/Deep Freeze, or even Duress.

I'll be back!

HoweverSparring Construct is a one drop untap of traxos that when it dies pumps one of my creatures giving me that push for damage i prefer to one of my big guys or spread damage with my mids. Or stack onto that 5/5 from tezzs touch. Or...make him a 5/5 when he dies pumps someone then it goes back to my hand. I feel he can be versatile as a chump blocker early or a target for tezz mid late. 4 mana for a 5/5 aint bad

23 creatures in deck. 18 targets realistically for 3 of em.6/1 beneficial targets per tezz touch?

You say you're an aggro deck, but I dont think Traxos lends toward that strategy. Your payoffs all start at 4. I think you need a way to deal with Lyra, Gearhulk, Scarab God and Ghalta in your starting 60, too.

Thats your preference, but you'll be topping this late game (you have 0 sources of card advantage that aren't Antiquities) and its going to be super sad. Dockhand provides utility at least.

I don't think this issue is a lack of targets, I just don't think you need it main. It's still an easy 2-for-1, and I think if were shrinking Traxos into Lyra/Bringer or Chandra plus any piece of red removal/Fight with Fire range, we've gone wrong somewhere. You're spending 3 mana, to save a 4 mana card that etb tapped, so you can play it for 4 again, tapped. That just seems like bad tempo. Exiling white removal is super strong atm, and Touch does nothing in that regard.

Void is much better than Stash, IMO. You're guaranteed a scry, while stash just sits there, to potentially get Field'd. Not to mention it only hits one payoff (Trax) while skipping Zahid, Antiquities and any walkers you decide to play.

I think Battle at the Bridge might be pretty bad here too, needing to tap down blockers to play kill a threat (esp out of Mono-R atm) doesnt sound great.

Foundry Inspector and Trophy Mage can easily make their way into this deck.

Assistant seems kinda weak too, maybe Contraband Kingpin? Has a big ass against red plus lifegain and almost the same effect. It means you drop half of the utility lands to make the mana work, but worth thinking about either way.

w33m4n says... #8

Kingpin loses some triggers plus flying is nice.

w33m4n says... #9

Inspector was but is slow and trophy mage fetches 3 drops that does me no good. And im now disabling comments cause im gettimg real sick of dumb comments. I said aggro ish not aggro. I said budget and people dont wanna listen so no more comments bye yall.

Tezzeret is a long game winner. I'm trying to keep this deck on the shorter side to wins. I tested with him recently and Just didn't quite have the oomph when he hit the field.

have you considered_ mechanised production_? or tezzerets touch mabye to help and more win cons than just combat but seems like a cool deck :)

Mechanized Production is just too slow in this. Tezzeret's Touch was in here but pulled for better go wide late option in Efficient Construction

How well is Sequestered Stash been working for you? I was considering it for a UW version Im running.

Have you considered 1 copy of Inventors' Fair?

I like to play 4 Renegade Maps instead of 3 lands and 1 other non land card. I only replace 3 lands since I have found I miss too many land drops otherwise due to some combination of deck thinning and the maps not being able to be lands till the turn after they come down. I think the maps would do well in your list because they allow for the historic triggers, can be used multiple times with the help of Scrap Trawler or Sequestered Stash, and you dont have any vital T1 plays.

w33m4n says... #16

Umm turn one bird for setup or turn one sparring to help feed early damage is all i need.

Trying to keep it more creature based.

Sequestered stash has been very useful wether to fetch for a trigger or just get traxos back after being killed

Tested inventors fair. Its ok but sometimes its a pain keepin bodies on field when this deck is meant to just push constantly

May 13, 2018 10:42 a.m.

The probability of having Sparring Construct or Artificer's Assistant in the opening hand is just under 40%.

Karn, Scion of Urza seems like a good fit, as well as Tezzeret the Schemer.

May 16, 2018 3:57 p.m.

w33m4n says... #20

papahiggs if ya look in comment archive tezz is too slow and Karn would be good but paying the cost of the whole deck for 3 is not

May 16, 2018 4:10 p.m.

w33m4n says... #21

Otherwise there would be 3

Minor thing, I would tweak the mana base just a bit, drop a couple of Swamps for Islands to make sure you have the double blue in the late game for your Djinn but still have black early for your removal.

And THANK YOU FOR NOT RUNNING KARN. I am so damn sick of that card, it's becoming the new Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, but worse since it's showing up in all formats. +1 just for that.

Pabs4444 says... #23

Efficient Construction seems to slow for the deck. It doesn't do anything when it enters the battlefield, and turns 3 & 4 are crucial. Perhaps Trophy Mage instead to set up future plays?

May 17, 2018 11:57 a.m.

w33m4n says... #24

Leatherankh Yeah I wanted to avoid Karn just for the sake of price otherwise he does definitely belong in here. Also you are looking too much at Zahid, Djinn of the Lamp's direct casting cost. Never, ever, ever, ever ,ever should he be hard cast.I have more than enough artifacts to cast him for the and Tap and artifact which is why he is in here. I can abuse the hell out of him for a turn 4 5/6 flyer

May 17, 2018 12:03 p.m. Edited.

w33m4n says... #25

Pabs4444, Efficient Construction isn't a turn 4 play in here. Ideally he would be turn 6 and on and only if needed to get those last extra bits of damage. Very useful late game for going a bid wide as I will be dropping 1-2 artifact creatures a turn at that point and as such getting 1-2 thopters for extra damage or blockers. Just gives me some board control. That's why there are at least 2 in here cause even if I dont hit the big guys I can use that to stall some time with bodies on the field to get the big guys out. Otherwise if you read description they are filler for no Karn.
