Sideboard

The power of Aetherworks Marvel

Energize

The deck is built around Aetherworks Marvel with a bunch of hard working energy cards to power it. Rogue Refiner, Servant of the Conduit and Whirler Virtuoso all interact on the board producing energy, drawing cards and tapping for mana, whilst at the same time they can play their part as defenders, or swinging in for the beat down. The best of the energy cards is without question Woodweaver's Puzzleknot, which gains 3 life and 3 energy when it enters and leaves, just enough for to spin the wheel with the Marvel. Attune with Aether is a valuable energy card, searching for a land and reshuffling the deck.

Creatures

Aetherworks Marvel easily has six energy to power the effect when it enters the battlefield. Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger is the sole Legendary Creature in the deck, perfect for Aetherworks Marvel to drop for a mid game win and against any deck in Standard he is hard to beat. Kozilek, the Great Distortion is another powerful creature. Oblivion Sower rounds out the big guns, with World Breaker, Tireless Tracker and Sphinx of the Final Word in the sideboard.

Control/counters/removal

Harnessed Lightning is a great removal or simply an energy boost if needed. Kozilek's Return however, wipes the board and then comes back to do 5 damage to all creatures when any of the Eldrazi big guns drop. He is to irresistible not to play in the mainboard. Baral's Expertise is also a beast of a card, sending two of their threats back to hand and allowing a free cast of Aetherworks Marvel or even a Chandra, Torch of Defiance. Sideboard counters include two Disallow and two Negate which might be needed in a control matchup and to protect the second casting of Approach of the Second Sun.

Alternative win-con

In the sideboard is a playset of Approach of the Second Sun for a fun alternative. We're looking for the first copy of Approach of the Second Sun to drop for free with Aetherworks Marvel. Even if it is countered it is considered cast and it goes to graveyard,. If it resolves, place it seventh from the top in your library and gain a valuable 7 life. With a copy of Approach of the Second Sun in hand, cast it as early as turn 4 with three copies of Servant of the Conduit on the battlefield, to win the game.

Consitency

This is a very consistent deck, fast and always something happening every single turn. Also, hardcasting enough small creatures early provides a solid defence against aggro, whilst stalling for Aetherworks Marvel + Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger to close out the game. Performs well against any deck, even aggro with Kozilek's Return to much for even a zombie horde to contend with.
