Sideboard

This is one of my favorite decks. Marath is a truly badass creature, and the list you see here has won me many games. Its strength lies in its maindeck versatility. I have overcome many complex and nearly unwinnable situations (imagine bad things with Isochron Scepter ) by simply playing into draws and answers that I know are coming. The deck can play a variety of games (from aggro to control) and has enough inevitability to outlast most opponents.

Marath is the best Tiny Leader I can think of. He's repeatable removal, an army in a can, keeps on getting bigger, and can save my creatures from damage by pumping them at instant speed. He's also a lot of fun and a ton of fun to build around.

The plan: T1 dork, T2 Marath, T3 attack and shoot things. This strategy, if executed normally and without major disruption, usually wins the game on the spot. This is because it has a lot more tempo (I deploy my hand and kill your creatures in just my opening few turns) than most opponents in the early turns. My board-state then begins to accrue value from then onward for the rest of the game.

Interactions:

Nightshade Peddler + Marath. The peddler's soulbond allows a deathtouched Marath to machine-gun the opposition. A classique coup de grace is to cast GSZ for 2 with Marath in play, get the peddler, and use my remaining mana to have Marath wipe my opponent's team. GG

Gyre Sage + Marath have a powerful interaction, too. Not only does Marath almost always evolve the sage, but its +1/+1 counters can be moved (at instant speed) to the sage in order to produce more (maybe to then immediately recast Marath). Makes a great mana dork that can attack for real damage.

Hardened Scales + Marath and other things that make +1/+1 counters ( Gyre Sage , Hangarback Walker , Scavenging Ooze , Dromoka's Command , Knight of Autumn ). But with Marath it's just disgusting, and if left unchecked usually wins me the game.

Hangarback Walker + Marath and Hardened Scales . This is a new addition to the deck and I hope it works well.

Proclamation of Rebirth + Hangarback Walker . This is a good win-con that can be grabbed by proc of rebirth. Unlike elves and dorks, Hangarback Walker can deal significant damage even without a sword. Because this deck plays a tempo game, attrition matches (b/g/x with wraths) can be difficult to finish, so this interaction really helps in grindy matchups.

Kill List: Ezuri, Renegade Leader , Nin, the Pain Artist , Teysa, Orzhov Scion , Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest , Rhys the Redeemed , Eight-and-a-Half-Tails , Grenzo, Dungeon Warden , Geist of Saint Traft , Alesha, Who Smiles at Death , Selvala, Explorer Returned , Thalia, Guardian of Thraben , Doran, the Siege Tower , Varolz, the Scar-Striped , Merieke Ri Berit , Bushi Tenderfoot , Sygg, River Cutthroat , Brimaz, King of Oreskos , Adeliz, the Cinder Wind
