The Commander

It's pretty easy to see what the plan is here with Purphoros, God of the Forge at the helm of this deck. He's got a lot going for him both in terms of raw strength as well as being indestructible, but what we care about here is abusing ETBs that trigger his passive ability to blast the entire table down at the same time and eventually come out on top. Naturally, the way that we will achieve this is by vomiting both goblins and goblin tokens onto the battlefield to keep the triggers going. .

Strategies

Here are all of the tools in this deck's kit that you need to utilize to be effective and to keep up with the rest of the table.

While Purphoros is on the field, use cards that generate tokens such as Krenko, Mob Boss, Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin, and Legion Warboss as your value engines to keep churning out more goblins and more damage. There are also a lot of sorceries that can make tokens in this deck as well like Empty the Warrens, Goblin Offensive, and Krenko's Command. To add on to the damage that Purphoros does, stuff like Manabarbs, Zo-Zu the Punisher, Sulfuric Vortex, and Throne of the God-Pharaoh can also keep it piling on.
- Stax it Up: If you feel comfortable with your value engine that's currently on the board, this opens up a big opportunity for this deck to pull ahead of opponents that ramped way harder than you. Blood Moon can really screw everybody up. Also, since blue combo and extra-turn decks are really big in my LGS's meta, I've included Price of Glory along with some counterspells that hate on blue. The really big player here, however, is Stranglehold because I am sick and tired of losing to Expropriate because a lot of times, even if everybody at the table is smart enough to choose "Money", one extra turn is usually all that anybody needs to close out the game.
In the event that Purphoros gets removed at a critical stage of the game, or if you just can't keep him up and going, there is still a lot that this deck can do to be effective in the event that the commander falls. Cards like Coat of Arms, Caged Sun, Door of Destinies, and Vanquisher's Banner contribute a lot to making all the goblins you create much beefier, and you should be able to start swinging if you have to. There is also a really good variety of supporting goblins that have all sorts of fun abilities that buff the other goblins and stuff like that. Check out the list for more info.

Weaknesses

This deck is pretty solid and I like it a lot, but it definitely has some weaknesses. Below are a few of them, along with the tools that I have included to compensate for some of the downsides that come with playing in mono-red.

This part is a little bit tricky since we're playing mono red and don't have access to a ton of stuff, so this is definitely one of the deck's potential weaknesses. However, mana rocks such as Sol Ring, Hazoret's Monument, Ruby Medallion, and the new Nyx Lotus are all huge to making sure you can keep up with the table. In addition to rocks, creatures like Dockside Extortionist and Treasure Nabber can be a little bit of extra mana to keep you on pace with the table if you find yourself falling behind
Card Advantage: Since we're gonna be playing a little on the lower end of the CMC spectrum, this deck can sometimes run out of gas quickly. To mitigate this, we have Vanquisher's Banner, Browbeat, Faithless Looting, and Mind Stone to keep us going.

Combos and Important Cards

There are 2 infinite combos in this deck that both utilize Lightning Crafter

both of these combos are detailed on this page here, and play out the exact same way. The best part about these though is that you don't even need Purphoros to be on the field for it to work. EDH is such a diverse format that there are 100% matchups out there that will shut this deck down hard, which is why it is good to have something like this in your pocket should the primary and secondary strat of the deck fail.

Steps

  1. Play Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and Lightning Crafter.

  2. When Lightning Crafter enters the battlefield, Champion (exile) a Goblin or Shaman until it leaves the battlefield.

  3. Tap Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, targeting Lightning Crafter OR enchant Lightning Crafter with Splinter Twin to create a copy of Lightning Crafter with haste.

  4. When the copy enters the battlefield, Champion Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker OR the enchanted (original) Lightning Crafter.

  5. Tap the token copy of Lightning Crafter to deal 3 damage to target creature or player.

  6. Sacrifice the token copy of Lightning Crafter to a sac outlet, bringing back Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker OR the original Lightning Crafter untapped.

  7. Repeat steps 4 through 7, infinitely dealing 3 damage with copies of Lightning Crafter or infinitely triggering Purphoros, God of the Forge.

Panharmonicon might be the best supporting card out of the other 99. It's really good for all sorts of shenanigans and it can get really stupid really fast, especially if you have Purphoros out and can cast cards that create tokens on ETB.

For example: Beetleback Chief creates 2 goblins on ETB. Ordinarily, this would only trigger Purphoros 3 times for 6 total damage. However, with Panharmonicon BOTH effects get doubled. So now Beetleback Chief creates 4 goblin tokens and triggers Purphoros 5 times, but because of Panharmonicon Purphoros actually gets triggered 10 times for a total of 20 DAMAGE TO EVERYBODY at the table.

This is just one example of how stupid this card can get, and there are plenty of other synergies in the deck as well, so go crazy go stupid if you are able to keep it on the field.
