Update #2 —Aug. 24, 2018

So I've had the chance to play some multiplayer games finally. I've been playing against fields including: Gaddock Teeg, Linvala, Keeper of Silence, The Gitrog Monster, Sliver Overlord, The Ur-Dragon, Phenax, God of Deception, Kaalia of the Vast, Estrid, the Masked, Lord Windgrace, and others that I forget.

We did some with Planechase, most without. Planechase adds a lot of fun to games, but wow ... The most well-laid plans are blown away like dust in the wind.

So far, the only thing not carrying its weight in multi-player games was Aetherflux Reservoir. It won me a couple single player games but, in multi-player when I'm being picked at from all sides, it just provokes people to attack at me even more. And so...

  • Out: Aetherflux Reservoir
  • In: Archfiend of Ifnir
  • I've been wanting to try this one out I feel like the massive amount of discard that I do will turn into a melting field of opposition. So let's see how it goes!

SlavicGhaespar It's an interesting idea. But I wanna figure out how to squeeze Endless Ranks of the Dead into the deck first.

Coward_Token That ... Might actually be interesting. After playing with the deck a bit last, she does hit the table a lot. And she does draw a lot of cards! Haha

Abuelo Oh I definitely know the potential power of Havengul Lich, as well as Sidisi with any sac outlet. Shadow of the Grave is a card I came across when I was hunting down the cards for the deck, and I set a copy aside. One thing I noticed is an extreme desire to keep some cards in my hand, but they keep getting pitched.

GeonosisWave You're very much on the right track. I noticed exactly that last night after playtesting some. Another option I'm considering is bringing in Cryptic Command for the tap-out-your-opponents versatility.

How useful did find Pact of Negation to be? However, you could consider to take out either one recursion spell or one counter spell (although I tend towards recursion since you already have a lot of it) and put in Endless Ranks of the Dead. If you succeed to defend it even just two turns - which you actually might with all of these counter spells - I found it to be a real powerhouse.

BlueBat93 I didn't! Normally it and FoW are two of my go-tos. In the games I have played so far, both have been discard bait. I'm about to drop both for Endless Ranks and Cryptic Command. That's what I'll go into my game night with.

Not terribly creative this time, but where's your Toxic Deluge?

Some brainstorming because I feel the has some potential that hasn't been explored as much as it could:

Inner Sanctum (token combat protection; also Reconnaissance but someone else though of that & it's a nonbo with the Throne), Sunbond/Cradle of Vitality (probably worse than the Wand), Delaying Shield (in an Infect meta)

Coward_Token Toxic Deluge, as well as any of the (insert name of wrath here), is constantly in the back of mind. Testing so far hasn't shown a massive need for more wrath. The Noxious Ghoul has worked some overtime though, and I am increasingly thinking of squeezing in the Archfiend of Ifnir. I may swap Toxic Deluge in for Wrath of God or Damnation, since there's some Hate Bears in my meta. And I had good results with Reconnaissance in my vampire deck, but it was riddled with First/Double Strike.

She's kinda parasitic, but Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim should be online a lot of the time in this deck. I'd lean towards swapping it in for Return to Dust but I'm kinda biased against that card's CMC.

Casting e.g. Nexus of Fate will lead to more Varina combat triggers, although your playgroup might not approve.

Eldrazi Monument will probably save more creatures than it'll eat and helps in combat as well.

(Also, I assume you're not going to add Necropotence despite mentioning it in your update due to its anti-self-discard ability.)

Finally, I got all the cards and this is what I came up with Varina, Zombie Tyrant
