Sideboard

Maybeboard

Hey Modern Vets, I've been dabbling with the idea of playing an aggressive Mardu Control deck with some of the most efficient 1-mana removal in the format falling under these colors and the utility of some of the game enders (LOTV, Chandra) helps close out the game. My main concern is that the deck seems to only interact well with creature-based opponents but flounders against match-ups like Burn and Urzatron. My creature base is still up in the air. Young Pyromancer seems to be a no-brainer but there are a lot of token killing spells with Jund/Abzan/BG playing Flaying Tendrils as an efficient boardwipe with no drawback. I like Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet as a potential roadblock due to the relevant body (3/4) and Lifelink and his zombie-making ability helps in attrition-based strategies, but he does little there after. I've been hoping to make Stormbreath Dragon work in this as it dodges a significant amount of spot removal (pretty much all of Abzan/Jund removal package can't touch it save for Dismember and fringe cards like Victim of Night or Go For the Throat) but I am not sure if the deck can handle all that hard mana costs.

That said, I'm not really sure if I'm all on the token generation strategy either. Your advice is sincerely appreciated.

Was bummed out after work. Seemed like I made a bad decision to swap out Inspiring Vantage for Bloodcleave Cliffs (not a cheap decision either) because the deck flowed poorlyin my 2 games of the night.

1st Game Vs 4 Color Kiki-Chord (lost) As janky as the deck seemed, Spell Queller and Voice of Resurgence are not easy to deal with as I never seemed able to draw a Path to Exile to deal with either of them. The deck revolved around a Kiki+Restoration Infinite Combo along with Eternal Witness getting him mileage out of Chord of Calling. Did not perform better after sideboarding as again, slow start being land-starved let the opponent run away with the game. Saltiness abound.

2nd Game Vs Eldrazitron (lost) Thinking that this would go favorably for me after previous match-ups with Bantdrazi proved to be my undoing. I made poor decisions on my keep and came to the realisation that I could not a keep a 2 land hand and needed to look out for that in future games. It was either 3 lands or mull. Anyway, I couldn't stop an extremely well-curved out play of 2 Eldrazi Temple and Cavern of Souls. His Reality Smashers nailed me unchallenged.

Bad side of variance I guess. Will consider swapping out Goblin Dark-Dwellers for something a little more aggressive and consistent like Stormbreath Dragon or mainboarding Kalitas.
