Hello, I don't know if you've already considered that but Hellkite Charger or Aggravated Assault can go infinite with Savage Ventmaw + mana doublers or with Sword of Feast and Famine or Bear Umbra

As for land base I'd probably swap 1 Forest for Swamp just to have option for fixing with Sakura-Tribe Elder and other cards that search for basic lands.

Also I think that you don't need Skithiryx here because you don't win with Infect and you only set yourself up for unnecessary hate (some people really get triggered when they see infect creatures). I'd swap him for Glorybringer to get some hasty removal option.

Speaking of Dragons... I like to run token oriented strategy with Nesting Dragon and Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire - you put land to get 0/2 Dragon Egg and Vaevictis attack trigger sacs it so you get 2/2 Dragon AND potential permament for free while crippling opponents' boards (13 non-permament spells look good here)

Another recursion option is Patriarch's Bidding - when you take back so many Dragons with Scourge of Valkas that you can one-shot whole table (I did that in my Ur-Dragon deck once or twice and it feels really awesome)

Last set also gave us Rhythm of the Wild - amazing enchantment that gives counters or haste (whatever you need at the time) and protects your creatures for only

Hope this helps a little fellow Dragon Master :D

Thanks for looking and commenting. I appreciate the feedback.

I'm aware of the infinite combos with Hellkite Charger and Aggravated Assault , but I'm not a huge fan of infinite combos. I may include in the future though.

Not a bad idea swapping in a Swamp to help with Sakura-Tribe Elder , but I already feel like I have a bit too much black and not enough green mana. I'm thinking about dropping Shizo, Death's Storehouse , but would hate to give up the Fear utility.

Nesting Dragon + Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire sounds pretty sweet. I'll have to give some thought to including that. Not sure what to give up though.

Haha, Patriarch's Bidding would be pretty epic with Scourge of Valkas . I'll have to look into getting one.

Rhythm of the Wild is pretty awesome.

As for good old Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon , I'm not ready to drop him quite yet, but you're probably right that it would be good to swap him for Glorybringer . He just packs so much brutal utility for a low CMC. I guess the same could be said for Glorybringer .

About lands - I think that actually Shinka, the Bloodsoaked Keep isn't that great. If you want more sources then I'd actually suggest better fixing, namely City of Brass , Mana Confluence , Llanowar Wastes , Karplusan Forest and Fellwar Stone might be a good idea.

Infinite combos are actually very good when you all are in a tight spot when nobody can win the game and it already feels like going for too long. Also I personally try to use them to win with stronger decks, while with less cutthroat playgroup I prefer to win with normal combat damage or damage triggers from Scourge of Valkas and/or Dragon Tempest so overall it's good to have that option but it's execution and usage is only up to you.

With Nesting Dragon keep in mind that even budget Evolving Wilds might be very good as it fixes mana and creates 2 tokens.

One more thing - I'd cut some less optimal Dragons for more ramp options like Demanding Dragon for Skyshroud Claim or Thunder Dragon for Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma (might not look like a ramp but not only makes dragons cost less but you have additional source of Trample for them).

I'm really glad that you liked my insight, I just love tinkering Dragon decks :D

Vlasiax : Not a bad idea, but I don't own a Mana Crypt at the moment. That will have to be a long-term goal.

Played this deck a few times yesterday and had some trouble dealing with "Indestructible" creatures (specifically, Soul of New Phyrexia and Spearbreaker Behemoth ). Thinking about adding Bonds of Mortality and maybe Hour of Devastation and/or Dismember . Any other ideas?

Also thinking about cutting down some of the more expensive dragons for cheaper ones (as painful as that will be). Going to try to include Damnation as well.

Looks good, however I'd still lower the number of dragons and add some interaction and draw:

And for now that's it from me, let me now what you think about these suggestions!

Also I've completely forgot about Sylvan Library - it works wonders every turn and 4 life for a card when you really need it is worth it (just don't overuse this effect and you'll be fine).

Another benefit is that it stacks the deck for your own Chaos Warp or Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire .

May 11, 2019 3:39 p.m.

I like your suggestions, but I'm not sure what to cut.

Thinking of adding in Terramorphic Expanse , Evolving Wilds , Worldly Tutor , Sarkhan's Triumph , and Patriarch's Bidding .

Also, why not Vraska's Contempt instead of Abrupt Decay ? 3 cmc seems a bit limiting... Also, exile on the Vraksa's is nice in these colors.

Was also thinking of adding Entomb and Exhume (or something similar).

May 11, 2019 9:59 p.m.

Also, was thinking about Sight of the Scalelords . Expensive at 5 cmc, but vigilance and +2/+2 for almost of my attacking creatures would be nice, wouldn't it?

About that - main problem here is that you want to have too much high CMC cards that make 'cool things' but it's better to settle for less and actually get there. Playing Dragon tribe already fills your high end of the curve so we need to focus on lower CMC interaction/ramp/draw to get to cast as many of the mentioned creatures as possible.

That's why Crucible of Fire and Sight of the Scalelords are bad but you seem to discover another way to win besides fight with big beaters - it's reanimator strategy. So I'd rather get 4/4 or 5/5 Dragon with Animate Dead for AND do something else than cast one of those enchantments and pass, hoping that it survives on board. I personally use reanimation with Dragon Tempest as a secondary strategy to kill as many people as possible with damage from dragons coming back and then smash the rest with them, since they get haste.

Abrupt Decay has that advantage of hitting NONLAND permaments... so creatures, enchantments, artifacts, planeswalkers all go down. While Vraska's Contempt is overpriced Path to Exile in black since planeswalkers can be overrun with Dragons and 2 life gain is negligible. It's not about hitting someone's Craterhoof Behemoth or in your case Hellkite Overlord it's about dealing with Sylvan Library / Phyrexian Arena , Chromatic Lantern or Yisan, the Wanderer Bard that get them there. And that's the lesson that I learned few months back and made drastic changes to my deck - Bow before Draconic King!!! | *WAR* Update. It's still a Dragon deck but has everything that early game requires so I can still compete with better tuned decks of others.

That's why for changes I'd propose:

I think that's it for now, it's mostly about getting as much during your turns for as low cost as possible. I'd also rethink these cheap mana doublers but that's me and I don't like helping others, since they can and they will gain advantage of that and beat me. Early dorks/rocks actually can feel like mana doubling and work only for you.

If you want to know more about getting better at EDH I'd recommend checking out CMDR Central and EDHRec podcasts on youtube - https://articles.edhrec.com/commander-central-ep75-settling-for-less/. Also EDHRec page has great articles posted daily, one of them is about Evolving Wilds: https://articles.edhrec.com/in-the-margins-evolving-wilds-terramorphic-expanse/

Thank you, excellent suggestions.

I will probably end up swapping Kilnmouth Dragon for Night's Whisper , but it will be painful to do so. If you've ever pulled off revealing 3 dragons from your hand and then dropping in the Kilnmouth Dragon , it's a pretty awesome feeling.

As far as Crucible of Fire goes, I hear you. I know it's a total Timmy/"Win More" card, but I'm a Timmy. Also, I feel like it's one of the few options for "Dragon Tribal"-- if you're not utilizing tribal interactions, why bother?; it also makes all of the tokens absolute beasts. The 2/2s become 5/5 terrors of the skies, etc., etc. With Nesting Dragon in the mix, I felt like this was a card I wanted to include. I think I'm going to play-test a bit after my next update and see how it goes.

I was thinking something a little bit similar with Spit Flame -- the best part there was that it fits the dragon triblal theme and lets me re-use it from the GY for only .

Instead of The Immortal Sun , I'll probably swap in Chromatic Lantern instead of the Signets

Also, my "Flying Matters" theme is just about toast now, so I'll probably be adding in the Dragonspeaker Shaman and the Dragonlord's Servant instead of the group-hug mana doublers I'm currently including. While I'm at it, I'll probably be adding Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma too (which was an early suggestion from you).

The point re: Temple of the False God is fair and I'll be swapping it out. I also checked out the Evolving Wilds article you linked. Given the benefit of landfall from Nesting Dragon , do you think I should roll with the "slow taplands" or TM/EW?

I'll work on posting a major update this weekend. Thanks again for your thoughts and feedback, I really appreciate it.

If you want more flexible fixing and you're not afraid to pay a little life then I'd go with slow fetches, since they can take your ABUR Duals / Shocklands, while Evolving Wilds grabs only basics.

I understand that you want to be as much 'on theme' as possible but some cards are just bad... That's why I use other creatures and as I saw that these are birds, elves, bears, etc. I decided to call them 'Forest Servants' because every being can become a Dragon servant.

While at that - interactions can be viewed as your spells as a mage so you don't need Spit Flame as an excuse for a targeted removal. For me it's as much on theme as Assassin's Trophy and you probably already know which one is better.

And point about growing tokens - they will get huge with Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury and/or Dromoka, the Eternal anyway and main reason we're running cards that produce them is to just hit as hard and as often as possible with Scourge of Valkas or Dragon Tempest so their power is a secondary thing. That's where reanimation from Living Death / Patriarch's Bidding comes in handy.

One more quick thought: you don't need huge amount of dragons in deck to really feel the theme, because, when you increase card draw you increase the amount of cards you dig through during each game. At this point some suboptimal dragons should be replaced with more card draw and tutors to find the ones that stand out as the best. Another thing is the fact that playing token producers allows us to get more dragon bodies from a single card without need to increase the amount of creatures - consider this a 2 or even 3 dragons in 1.

Looks way better - have you had a chance to playtest newer version of the deck?

Lately I also had a thought about Chromatic Lantern - in 5 colors I tend to keep it since this is game of variables and you might not always be able to fix mana producers perfectly.

However in 2-4 color decks (besides maybe Breya, Etherium Shaper ) if you have perfect collection of fetches, shocks, maybe duals (not necessary), painlands and a few basics then you don't need it. If you have some budget cuts and sub-optimal options then I'd give it a try but 3 color deck is a place where fixing gets more important but it's still not that hard to get done right during early game.

Vlasiax: Thank you, glad you like the changes (they were your idea)! THaven't had a chance to playtest it yet, but I think it should do well. I'll keep you posted.
