Atraxa: The Final COUNT Down

Commander / EDH*

Maybeboard

Another Atraxa deck. After playtesting at FNM I realized the deck can go wide and tall fast. This is a great thing, except that it draws attention and consequently boardwipes, spot removal and theft spells (guilded drake etc) follow. So I have made an effort to make the deck more resilient without relying on counterspells, although this is an option I may explore later. I have added cards like Asceticism, Inspiring Call, Sporeback Troll, Gift of Immortality, Plaxcaster Frogling and Sylvan Safekeeper. The only 2 remaining counters are there purely for value.

I havn't gone full infect and have only included 2 sources Tainted Strike, because all decks that play black should use it and Inkmoth Nexus. I did playtest Ichor Rats which turns the game into Archenemy and I don't have the control/stax build to support it. I have considered haste Infect creatures and I may include them at a later date, however at the moment they are tucked away in my mimeoplasm list.

My own boardwipes have been omitted to make room for more synergistic cards. I am relying on my opponents to boardwipe when necessary. I am contemplating Sporogenesis for this reason.

I personally believe that if you want to make Atraxa you have to choose between stax, heavy counters or resiliency enablers in order to make the deck work. Because of the aggro-esque build, draw spells are also essential to make sure that I don't run out of steam mid - late game.

Please let me know your thoughts if you have any suggestions or you would like to comment on your own Atraxa experiences.

BTW I know the card count is too high. I am working on it.

Updates Add

I have made a few changes. I swapped out Scavenging Ooze for Deathrite Shaman as it is more versatile, cheaper and a form of acceleration. I threw in the Mike and Trike combo, this leans me toward also considering Craterhoof Behemoth and Tooth and Nail. I haven't as of yet because I have played those combos to death and I wouldn't mind avoiding them. Mike and Trike are both synergistic on their own rite, hence the inclusions.

I still think the card is light on card draw and am considering the following: Rhystic Study, Mystic Remora and Prime Speaker Zegana. Once again these cards are staples in other decks and I was trying to go for a more synergistic route for my draw but I will add them if I feel i need to.

Gift of Immortality or Lightning Greaves? Both have benefits unique of the other. Greaves obviously provides haste, which is great for combat or activated abilities, it can be equipped to different targets and it gets around all targeted removal. Gift of Immortality gets around boards wipes, and is great when equipped to ETB creatures. The other alternative is Darksteel Plate, which is not as versatile as the other two. Thoughts?
