Hello and thank you for looking at my Mono U Mill for Standard 2020! I'm SUPER EXCITED for the new set, the spoilers have been amazing and I have tons of deck ideas. I've been wanting to make a Standard Mill deck for quite awhile now, but anything I attempted to put together never really flowed like I wanted it to, plus if anyone knew you were playing Mill, they just needed to add a couple
Gaea's Blessing
to their side board and you'd be outta luck! However,
Gaea's Blessing
is rotating out and the new set added tons of Mill opportunities (imagine a decent Mill deck in Draft? Oh boy.) The main focus of this deck is to (obviously) Mill your opponent while keeping your defenses up, countering spells your opponent is attempting to play and trying to wait it out, or even attacking with a couple cards that I think suit this deck well.
Your main cards for Milling will be
Merfolk Secretkeeper
,
Overwhelmed Apprentice
,
Wall of Lost Thoughts
,
Thought Collapse
, and
Didn't Say Please
. Scry, and keep your hand full with the use of
Opt
,
Radical Idea
,
Tamiyo's Epiphany
,
Into the Story
, and
Castle Vantress
. Use
God-Eternal Kefnet
to cast copies of Instant/Sorcery cards for cheap, or have
God-Eternal Kefnet
and
Vantress Gargoyle
beat your opponent down. Flood of Tears + God-Eternal Kefnet
would be a great combo, especially if you have the requirements to put a permanent from your hand onto the field.
Flood of Tears
is a great way to bide yourself some time, or try and
Thought Collapse
or
Didn't Say Please
your opponents advantage.
The side deck includes
Clear the Mind
for anti mill,
Lazotep Plating
for aggro, discard effects, etc, plus it put's a body on the field,
Mission Briefing
for the ability to recast cards from your graveyard,
So Tiny
for any heavy hitting creatures,
Sorcerous Spyglass
for anything you don't want to activate, and
Tale's End
to stop any ability triggers, or legendary spells in their path.
I'm looking for constructive criticism, what decks would I be strong against? Weak? What could use some work? Should I remove any cards? Add some? Your feedback is important to me, and appreciated. I know Mill is usually a pretty hard way to win a game, especially with some of the meta decks Standard has seen over the past year or so.
Thank you for looking! Happy Gaming.
Edit: After some feedback from multiple people, I've changed up the deck quite a bit. The new deck is mostly focused on if you've exiled your opponents graveyard with
Ashiok, Dream Render
so it's not as focused on
Vantress Gargoyle
or
So Tiny
, etc. I have however created a deck without Ashiok that I'll leave in the comments below that does focus on your opponent having 7+ cards in their graveyard. Thanks again to everyone's input, I really appreciate it. I do however, feel that it needs more card draw. I'd like to include
The Magic Mirror
but I'm not sure how well it would perform.
