Sideboard

Hi all,

This is the first iteration of my U/B Reanimator deck I'll be attempting to pilot for awhile during GRN Standard. This is still a very rough draft and copy of the deck and there will be many changes to come throughout the next few weeks. As of 17SEP2018 the full spoiler still isn't out yet, so there will inevitably be a few changes before the end of the spoilers. For now, let's talk about what we're attempting to achieve with this deck!

We want to mill some of our creatures in to our graveyard with either the new mechanic Surveil, which is essentially "Look at the top card of your library, place it into your graveyard or on top of your library", or hit a Stitcher's Supplier or Seekers' Squire and bin some creatures. We have a ton of cards with Surveil, so putting creatures to reanimate into our graveyard will be easy.

CREATURES!

Narcomoeba is a great card in this deck. Dumping any of these into the yard will automatically bring it to the battlefield, so hitting these off of any of our Surveils or Stitcher's Supplier is instant benefit for us. Being a 1/1 isn't so good, but being a 1/1 flier for 0 mana is great.

Stitcher's Supplier is gas in this deck because it dumps a huge amount of creatures into our graveyard and can be reanimated very easily if need be, which we will discuss later. Stitcher is great when she enters and when she dies.

Seekers' Squire is essentially another way to Surveil if need be, though it doesn't get the trigger for it. We can either find lands on her explore, or dump or keep a creature or spell. Definitely one of our flex spots and can be swapped out for something else.

Blood Operative is really sick. 1BB is not difficult to cast at all in our deck, and it's super easy to recur from our graveyard with the amount of Surveil that we have in our deck. We don't ever mind paying the 3 life, because he has lifelink and can easily gain the 3 back. His enter the battlefield ability is also relevant as graveyard themes are quite frequent in the upcoming Standard.

Isareth the Awakener is one of our best sources of reamination. I currently only play 2 of these in the deck, but I think I want to move it up to 3 because I usually always want her out. She is absolutely fantastic when we don't have anything else to spend our mana on, and having death touch is a serious upgrade. We can bring back anything in our deck from the graveyard, and it brings it back to the battlefield as a plus. Isareth is great, and I love casting her and reanimating with her.

What would a Dimir deck be without Lazav, the Multifarious? Lazav works great in this deck because his ability is instant speed and can become a copy of anything in our graveyard. Attack on an open board with Lazav, change him to Blood Operative, gain 3 life. Pay 5, he's now Doom Whisperer. If he wasn't a legendary I would run more, but I think 2 is a good number for now. Lazav is a great finisher and dumping mana in to him is a perfect way to sink it.

Doom Whisperer is incredibly powerful and a great finisher for this deck. Paying life to Surveil is not a big deal, especially when we're in the later stages of the game. Being a 6/6 Flyer with Trample for 5 mana is also insane. He can be recurred with Lazav or Isareth, or with one of the multitude of reanimation spells we have to work with. Fantastic card.

And that about does it for creatures in the main deck right now, and as I said I am sure that it will change. There are a ton of incredibly powerful creatures in Standard right now, especially in UB with Guilds of Ravnica. Nightveil Predator is an excellent card to run with Lazav, the Multifarious as it grants flying, hexproof, and deathtouch. Responding to a removal spell by copying Nightveil and getting hexproof is great. Thief of Sanity is another UB card I am looking forward to testing as well, especially against decks that do not play a lot of removal. Dream Eater is also absurd and can definitely flip games in our favor, but I feel that Doom Whisperer is better. There are plenty of creatures that have great ETB abilities, static abilities, and overall just awesome reanimation targets that will definitely be tested.

NON-CREATURE SPELLS!

Notion Rain is excellent in this deck. Surveil 2, draw 2, lose 2 life is just a better Read the Bones, which always sees play in Standard. Surveil 2 is perfect for our deck, and we don't mind losing the 2 life depending on what we Surveil. Also has dope art.

Necrotic Wound is definitely a flex slot here, but I don't like playing decks without removal, and with Fatal Push rotating out, we'll need to fill that void with another cheap removal option. Given that our deck likes milling and reanimating, Necrotic Wound should in theory be a great removal spell for us as it can essentially be a Path to Exile without a downside, for the low cost of a singular black mana.

Connive // Concoct is an interesting card. Connive doesn't interest me all that much, though it can be an okay way to steal a creature from an opponent to get rid of a blocker, or just a powerful low mana creature. Concoct however is great for our deck and is a prime piece of our reanimation package. It could however, be removed in favor of more creatures and just relying on Isareth and Lazav to reanimate, but I think it'll stay in the main board for awhile. Note, you can reanimate any target from your graveyard so this could be Imperious Greatwurm, Carnage Tyrant, Nicol Bolas, the Ravager  , Razaketh the Foul Blooded, the list goes on. There are plenty of good cards to reaniamte in Standard right now.

Discovery // Dispersal is fucking sick. It's a 2 mana Preordain that surveils and can be turned into a removal spell late game with a discard effect on top of it. Such a great card.

The Eldest Reborn saw a bit of play last Standard cycle and it's still a great card. It's a removal spell, a discard spell, and a reanimation spell all for one. The last chapter of the saga is very relevant because we can reanimate any creature or Planeswalker from any graveyard, which will be very important in a meta that has a lot of graveyard synergies.

We round out our mana base by playing 4 Watery Grave, 4 Drowned Catacomb, a few Island and a few Swamp. If you're on a budget, Dimir Guildgate will work just fine. :)

SIDEBOARD!

Totally meta dependent here, and as we don't know what we're getting in to with the new Standard, this will change heavily as well. Right now we have the Standard staples Duress and Negate. Price of Fame and Cast Down are for extra removal, Deadeye Tracker is for hitting other graveyard decks. Thought Erasure is dope as it's Thoughtseize with surveil attached to it. Unmoored Ego can hit our opponents best creatures, lands, or anything. I love this card.

I am certain there are flaws with my deck and these will come out with time, but for now, I'm pretty happy with how this deck is and how it plays. It has it's flaws such as dumping fucking lands or cantrips and reanimation spells in the yard with Stitcher's Supplier, but overall it works smoothly and is a fun deck to pilot and I enjoy the random aspect of it. This deck is not competitive and will not win you a Grand Prix I am assuming, but I dig it.

Please let me know what the deck can do better! Give me your comments, concerns, questions, or any card replacements and suggestions!
