The Wheels on the Bus

Commander / EDH UB (Dimir)

Petronio39

So I saw Etrata, and I was like, wow, she seems cool, a commander that removes stuff, provides a cool wincon. I mean, she'd probably be better suited for a non singleton format, because she's basically never a dead card since she goes away, but what the heck, I'd like to try her in commander.

My initial idea was a deck that played a lot of little cantrips and eggs to cycle through it's self until it found her, and then I figured wheels would be a great way of doing that. So I load the deck up with tons of wheels. Wheeling a lot means a lot of discarding for my opponents, so I decided to put in a few cards that give payoffs to those discards, as a way to win when I can't use Etrata. Then, of course, comes the problem of opponents benefiting from those wheels, and so I added some graveyard hate.

The idea of wheeling, then exiling everything from the yard is what really made this deck start taking it's current shape. I added more exile pieces like jester's cap, and sadistic sacrament, and leyline of the void. The plan was to keep wheeling, and eating away at my opponent's deck until there was nothing left. Taking out combo pieces, wincons, threats, interaction, and leaving the decks as shells of their former selves.

So you can see that we're playing the long game... the really long game. This deck can literally run forever in a vacuum thanks to cards that reshuffle our graveyard into the deck, and even things like mastermind's inquisition to keep pulling our wheels that exile themselves back into our hands. That's fun and all, but we also have a couple of tools to make winning a lot easier. For one, notion thief and a wheel can be something our opponents struggle to come back from, while rocketing us into the lead. We also have lab man and demonic consultation for a risky alt wincon.

That's the gist of the deck. Stave off death as long as possible while making sure your opponent has less and less ways to actually win.

Our best matchups are against reanimator and combo

Our worst matchups are against aggro and stax (no one has a good matchup against stax)

Voltron and control decks have been hit or miss so far.

Cards I'm considering adding: thada Adel, scheming symmetry, bolas's citadel, mirror mad phantasm, tolarian winds Cards on the chopping block: perplex, magus of the jar
