My take on a mono black devotion modern deck.This is not a budget deck. If you have any suggestions or constructive critisism please dont hold back!

The aim of the deck is discard control, sacrifice for board control and devotion for finishing. Your win condition is obviesly Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Phyrexian Obliterator

I have experimented with one and two drop creatures but have come to the conclusion that the best strategy in the early game would be to control what my opponent can play with Inquisition of Kozilek and Thoughtseize until i hit 3 mana.

3 mana enables me to start the sacrifice play of with Gatekeeper of Malakir and Liliana of the Veil . From there my goal is to keep the board clear with removal spells and sacrifice effects, building up devotion in the process.

Due to high lifegain from lifelink i can afford to take some damage unblocked, allowing me to keep devotion on the board.

The only nonbasic lands i run are 2x Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx for great acceleration, 1x Arena (its just funny with Phyrexian Obliterator and suprisingly good!) and a Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth to make them produce black mana. It is very important that you have acces to 3 black mana in turn 3 and to 4 black mana in turn 4.

Since one of the weaknesses of the deck are token based strategies i included Bile Blight and Ratchet Bomb in the Sideboard. I have chosen to include Pithing Needle in the Sideboard for problematic combo decks, since black has a lack of artefact or enchantement removal, and against pod.Against combo decks i also have Surgical Extraction.Leyline of the Void against Dregde and things like Snapcaster Mage.Grafdigger's Cage again to disrupt graveyard strategies and pod.
