Amonkhet Tweaks are here!
This is a deck I made based around gaining control of your opponent's creatures and beating him down with them. Hijack, Wrangle, Kari Zev's Expertise, and
Eldrazi Obligator
are the main cards in this deck, allowing you to take control of your opponent's creatures (or artifacts). Kari Zev's Expertise + Wrangle
is a valuable combo, allowing you to gain control of two permanents at once.
Besides
Eldrazi Obligator
, the creatures in the deck are meant to be as strong as possible for the mana cost. Kari Zev, Skyship Raider can swing for a total of three damage, and both
Bloodrage Brawler
and Hanweir Garrison can swing for four damage. Harsh Mentor isn't as powerful as the other creatures, but its ability is strong against decks that use Heart of Kiran,
Aetherworks Marvel
, or
Cryptbreaker
. Mentor is also a lightning rod, usually taking a hit from removal to protect the more powerful creatures in the deck.
A new mechanic I've added to the deck revolves around
Hazoret's Favor
and Fling. You should mostly target the creatures you've stolen from your opponent. This gets in a little extra damage each swing and ensures your opponent doesn't get his or her creatures back. The sacrifice effect works well against creatures that are normally resistant to removal, like Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger or gods.
Harnessed Lightning adds a little extra removal to the deck, and it synergizes well with
Aether Hub
.
For the manabase, Hanweir Battlements creates colorless mana for
Eldrazi Obligator
, can give a creature haste, and can meld with Hanweir Garrison for a late-game finisher.
Aether Hub
also generates colorless mana and can either create energy for a stronger Harnessed Lightning or generate off-color mana to activate the abilities of stolen creatures.
The deck's sideboard is fairly simple. Blazing Volley and Sweltering Suns help this deck stabilize against faster decks, like zombies or red rush.
By Force
destroys vehicles, Dynavolt Tower, Torrential Gearhulk, or Marvel. The extra Flings are best against creature-heavy midrange decks. Combat Celebrant makes the deck stronger in the late game against non-interactive combo decks.
I'm having problems coming up with a good name for this deck, so if anyone has an idea, feel free to share. I'm also continuing to modify the deck. The sideboard still isn't great, and I would like the deck to have something to do on turn one. Anyway, any suggestions are welcome!
