I am super excited for this upcoming set, and while I see a lot of people are lukewarm on the Izzet cards revealed so far, I personally am loving them!
Especially the new split card Expansion // Explosion, the back half is a juicy control finisher, letting me burn the opponent out for however much mana I have access to and draw cards to boot. But the first half people seem to not be valuing highly, but it is so useful in a lot of matchups; it can snag burn spells from your opponent to use on them or their creatures, it can be an extra counter in a counter war, it can let you vraska's contempt their cards when they try to do it to you, and my favorite, it can copy a kicked fight with fire to get a suprise 20 damage burst for 11 mana.
That's mostly what I tried to focus this deck around, with lots of counters, removal, and burn to deal with opponent's threats and their faces. The sideboard has 3 empty slots currently because I'm looking to slot in a red sweeper in there that we will hopefully get in the set to deal with token strategies, but if we don't get that I might have to re-think some of the deck a bit.
I'm pretty new to this, only started playing magic because of Arena in June this year, so the deck may suck and comments/suggestions are much appreciated! Thanks!
Edit: 9/19/18 The full spoiler list is out and while there are unfortunately no mono red sweepers in the format, so I'm tentatively putting Selective Snare in the sideboard to deal with token strategies, but it feels very weak. Maybe Electrostatic Field to help block against early aggro/get in incidental burn to their face.
Edit: 9/21/18 I forgot all about Fiery Cannonade, and while I wish it did 3 damage, it's still a sweeper, and at instant too, that I can use. I doubt pirates will be big but in case they are, I can always swap it out for Selective Snare again I suppose.
