Maybeboard

A heavy modified version of the Jund Lands deck from the Commander 2018 precons. Mainly a grindy- midrange style deck with major land and graveyard themes. Budget is a concern for stupid expensive stuff like Survival of the Fittest and true fetchlands, availability is a concern for cards like Omnath, Locus of Rage and Titania, Protector of Argoth (I only get cards through my LGS or trades, and no one has them).

Lord Windgrace cares about lands in a similar way to how The Gitrog Monster cares about them, in the graveyard or on the battlefield. Landfall is a sweet ability with his -3, but requires Lands in the bin, either with his +2 or through other means. Speaking of which, his +2 is amazing at keeping our hand stocked with gas. With this card-advantage engine sitting in the command zone, we can run card draw in the 99 without getting punished. Finally, the -11 isn’t totally unrealistic to get up to, but has no synergy with the land shenanigans of the first two abilities. I’ve yet to use that ability yet, despite being able to a couple times. Don’t disregard it, but don’t plan on using it, either.

I’m running 40 lands with a sizable ramp package because our commander (and a good amount of the rest of the deck) needs a lot of lands to function. While it sounds like a lot, I’ve found it to be perfect for finding enough lands to dump to Lord Windgrace’s +2 while still finding gas. We also have a good amount of X-Spells and mana-sinks for flood protection. With this deck, I’d rather be mana flooded than mana screwed.

I don’t want to try to control the whole game with this deck, but I do want to have outs for huge creatures or troubling board states. As such, I’m running a bunch of board wipes, and a decent amount of spot removal as well. Especially with a planeswalker as a commander, the wipes come in handy to keep the boardstate in my favor.

The “Value” section above houses the pieces of the deck that are highly synergistic, get me extra cards or selection, or otherwise contribute to the gameplan in a way that doesn’t fit into the other categories (which I feel are fairly self-explanatory). Similarly, the graveyard section deals with cards that either fuel the graveyard, or care about the cards in it.

Many of the cards that deal with lands support a ”Go Wide” strategy, like Avenger of Zendikar or Worm Harvest. While not the primary way of finishing off games (that would probably go to Torment of Hailfire or Xenogos, God of Revels), it’s our primary defense against whatever our opponents throw at us, and can beat down in a pinch, especially with a Craterhoof Behemoth leading the way.

Thanks for checking out the deck! Shocklands will be going in as they are reprinted, and Titania, Protector of Argoth, Constant Mists, and Oracle of Mul Daya are on the shortlist for for acquisition (once I find them/justify the cost), so please don’t suggest them, but any other suggestions are greatly appreciated!
