Version 1.0 - The beginning

This deck was originally one of deck builders society’s $50 budget decks, but after I built it on paper I realized that the deck had potential. Needless to say the deck is no longer $50.

The deck is a mix of aggression, tempo, and taking turns in a green blue shell. The amount of card draw and mana allows the deck to cast all its creatures while leaving up counter magic. Counter magic is very important because like any Aggro deck you are committed to the board so heavily that you need protection from board wipes or anything that is going to disrupt the strategy. Counter spells also give you the ability to stop others from comboing off which is an amazing side affect of having so much counter magic.

If you like turning creatures sideways and drawing 5+ cards a turn only to cast time warp to do it all again, this deck should catch your eye.

The upgrades I made were:

-$30 on manabase- breeding pool, flooded grove, reliquary tower, yavimaya coast

-$30 on ramp- burgeoning, exploration

-$30 on threats- craterhoof behemoth, champion of lamholt

-$200 on taking turns package- capture of Jingzhou, temporal manipulation, and time warp

-$170 on counter spell- force of will, mana drain, swan song, disallow, delay

Version 1.5 - tried to add a third color, but did not work

I added Derevi to the deck in hopes of making it my commander and Edric would become my lieutenant. It seemed like a nice twist to the deck and it allowed me to play noble hierarch for mana fixing. The card beastmasters ascension partnered with derevi real well making it a 7/7 flyer perfect for killing someone with commander damage in 3 hits. All seemed to be going well except I didn’t realize the stipulations that came with being a lieutenant.

The requirements to cast Edric were to much and caused my draw engine to slow down significantly. It would take me till turn 4 or 5 to get Edric up and running compared to turn 2 or 3. This matters because you want the game to be over by turn 6-7 or turn 8 at the latest becuase any turn past that players are going to be able to out-power your 1/1’s

In addition board wipes were nearly impossible to recover from because Edric’s mana and board state restrictions. I’m in top deck mode hoping to generate 7 devotion in order to get my draw engine going. The situation was just not ideal.

Version 2.0- refining and adding

I have played the deck a number of times and I took out a few cards that I thought were essential like burgeoning, distainful stroke, but most shocking of all sol ring! Although sol ring is fantastic in many decks my low mana costing creatures cannot utilize this ramp and I would much rather have a lotus petal, or a chrome mox. The reason I played with Distainful Stroke was for protection against board wipes since most are 4 mana or more, but it is a terrible card in the early game and since I already run 11+ counter spells it had to go being the worst one. Then there is burgeoning a deceptive card that looks good, but is actually a horrendous card. In order for burgeoning to be considered good I would have to have 4 lands in my opening hand otherwise the card was useless. In an Aggro deck 4 lands in your opening hand is very bad. I get just as much use out of a single mana dork turn 1 into another land drop into turn 2 then being able to drop 2 lands out of burgeoning except the mana dork is a body that I can use to attack or block with.

A card that I recently added was Nature’s Will. This card does work! When it is on the battlefield I feel safe tapping out precombate mainphase for something like a Bident of Thassa and then untap all my lands after I swing in with my creatures and draw twice as many cards.

Upgrades I made:

Gaeas Cradle- $550

Tropical Isand- $450

Snapcaster Mage- $70

Misty Rainforest- $65

Chrome Mox- $45

Nature’s Will- $20

Lotus Petal- $9

Cyclonic Rift- $20
