im with SquidMonk3y, +1 for the name

i playtested it a few times and it works really well, as long as you have a Torpor Orb in your opening hand or first 3 turns. otherwise things can get risky. but good job!!

Yeah, I don't think i'd take a hand without Torpor Orb in it, but Ponder helps that a little. Ideally, I'd have Fabricate in there, but that card is expensive. Didn't realise this until a day or two ago, but Hunted Horror is the best card in here.

this deck looks sweet!

i think you may want to include a few tutors in there, also maybe an easy counterspell like spell snag, why a counterspell? because if someone boomerangs your torpor orb in response to you casting, say, eater of days, i feel as if you would be very upset

I know he is abit more expensive, but Jokulmorder is a pretty big fattie that loves torpor orb.

the problem with Jokulmorder is he doesnt untap during your untap step unless you play lands. Torpor Orb will stop his played effects from triggering, but the rest of his effects still will count.

on another note, i HIGHLY recommend Phyrexian Dreadnought for this deck

I'd love Phyrexian Dreadnought , but the only stipulation to my deck design is that they have the new standardised card layout. I'd love them to reprint that guy. He's incredible.I like Jokulmorder , but not for this deck. I was thinking of a Ragnarok deck in the future that he would fit in, but you'd have to work hard to work around him.

I like it! My only suggestion would be to drop the Contagion Engine s and maybe even the Contagion Clasp s well. Two hits from most of your creatures with infect will win it for you anyways. You may even want to consider dropping some or all of your Ponder since you said you would probably mulligan if you didn't get Torpor Orb in your opening hand anyways. In their place, I would throw in things like Counterspell , Corrupted Resolve , and Fuel for the Cause or other similar counters as well as Artful Dodge in whatever ratio you see fit to protect those Torpor Orb s when you play your big guys and be sure that infect gets through.

Definitely Contagion Engine . It's too costly i think for the two extra counters. With my meta a could get away with a simple creature counterspell but that depends on whether I do a counter deck in the future. So I think the Artful Dodge will replace Ponder but i'll keep 2 in in place of Contagion Engine and give that a shot.

Do i need Trickbind ? Is the chance of Torpor Orb showing up in the opening hand too slim?

Sweet! Thanks for the shout out, and the infect angle is a great idea. +1

Amazing deck! So mean and hilarious, I love it! +1.

btw, since you might have trouble drawing torpor orb, have you ever thought of Sundial of the Infinite ? it's a similar price, inferior but it works the same. Just end the turn before the "when enters battlefield" resolves and you're good ;) What do you think?

November 7, 2012 6:52 p.m.

DavidBray says... #19

These sort of things confuse me. So i play a nasty creature, wait for the spell to resolve, and then trigger the sundial, ending my turn before the effect happens? I then pass the turn over to my opponent?

November 8, 2012 1:09 a.m.

Yeah exactly, you just end your turn before the nasty effects resolve and thus they're gone forever. Glad you took my suggestion! :)

November 11, 2012 4:01 a.m.

buhlertj says... #21

You can't do that anymore. I can't remember the ruling, but it goes something along the lines "those effects trigger as instantly as the creature itself, thus if you stop the effect, the creature is countered too." Sorry chaps.

A creature being cast and an ability that triggers as it enters the battlefield are two different things on the stack. Sky Swallower 's ETB triggered ability only triggers after the creature spell resolves and the card is no longer a spell resolving, but a creature which is already on the battlefield.

While it is true that...

603.6a Enters-the-battlefield abilities trigger when a permanent enters the battlefield. These are written, When [this object] enters the battlefield, . . . or Whenever a [type] enters the battlefield, . . . Each time an event puts one or more permanents onto the battlefield, all permanents on the battlefield (including the newcomers) are checked for any enters-the-battlefield triggers that match the event.

It is quite clear that the triggered abilities begin to resolve once the object enters the battlefield, placing it on the stack. However, it is still on the stack...

603.3. Once an ability has triggered, its controller puts it on the stack as an object thats not a card the next time a player would receive priority. See rule 116, Timing and Priority. The ability becomes the topmost object on the stack. It has the text of the ability that created it, and no other characteristics. It remains on the stack until its countered, it resolves, a rule causes it to be removed from the stack, or an effect moves it elsewhere.

This, therefore, falls under Sundial of the Infinite 's Exile all abilities on the stack remit.

Muddle the Mixture and Dimir Infiltrator have transmute, with cmc 2. Still the cost of transmute is 3, but they have additional effects
