How the Deck Functions

This is a semi-voltron storm deck (connecting with Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder is an instant win, but not through combat damage), based around our commander Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder. The deck runs cards such as Lotus Bloom, Wheel of Fate, and Ancestral Vision, which you would not normally expect to see in a storm deck trying to go off on turn four, not wait four turns to draw 3 cards such as a Brago, King Eternal. This is because Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder's ability to give us cascade is insanely powerful, only reading the converted mana cost on the spells he cascades into, which for cards like Ancestral Vision is an understood 0, essentially makes any spell that cascades into it an Ancestral Recall for 0 mana, especially when using cantrips like Brainstorm.

Here's a list of all the 0 CMC spells we're running: Wheel of Fate, Lotus Bloom, Ancestral Visions, and Lotus Petal (see the budget section for more information).

Playing the Deck

Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder, obviously, makes this deck insane. But being a four drop with a mana cost of , he can be very challenging to get out, especially as a player who can't afford 1,000$ worth of abur duals (such as Underground Sea, which is now ~475$ for a lightly played version). So, to facilitate this commander's cost, and to help keep this deck below 800$, we limit the deck to shocks, fetches, and various other utility lands. But if we're looking to play this deck at a semi-reasonable pace, we're going to need to get color fixing and ramp from other cards, so we choose to run a large amount of ramp, such as:

Mana Dorks: Birds of Paradise, Arbor Elf, Deathrite Shaman, Elves of Deep Shadow, and (the worst one to use for strict ramp) Orcish Lumberjack.

Mana Rocks: Dimir Signet, Simic Signet, Izzet Signet, Golgari Signet, Rakdos Signet, Fellwar Stone, Talisman of Dominance, Talisman of Indulgence, Sol Ring, Mana Vault, Lotus Petal, and Lotus Bloom (the last two are terrible for ramp, and are better for storm/cascade turns due to their CMC of 0).

Quasi-Ramp: Baral, Chief of Compliance, Cabal Ritual, Carpet of Flowers, Dark Ritual, Exploration, Helm of Awakening, Manamorphose, Summer Bloom, and Waste Not
