Planeswalker (1)

Was trying U/W control for awhile but it simply can't deal with early game threats efficiently enough while also beating Marvel decks. So, trying out Esper for some access to better early interaction and perhaps even better interaction with Marvel/Ulamog. We're really just running W/B control, splashing blue for cheap countermagic such as Negate to catch non-creature permanents or spells, while also giving us access to potential blue card advantage.

Mostly just trying to get a feel for the #'s of each spells as well as digging for the most efficient answers available within the format. Other than that, the land base can be a bit tricky to tackle with three color support being fairly poor if you aren't running green.

Update 1 I've retooled the land base a bit to allow for manlands to take over the game if unchecked in the late game when you're either behind or need to apply pressure until you refill. With the previous land base the deck ran fairly smoothly but adding the manlands might change that and make it a bit more awkward, so we'll see.

Update 2 Decided against some of the more experimental cards in favor of more tried and true ones within the format, such as swapping Shamble Back for the Scarab Feast and Fragmentize for Declaration in Stone . Furthermore, I think we'll try twenty-five lands instead of twenty-six, along with shaving a single copy of Yahenni's Expertise and Grasp of Darkness to allow room for Censor since it really is a sweet control tool for us in Standard. Lastly, I did add some better sideboard options against Mid-range opponents in the form of Essence Scatter by shaving overly redundant copies of other things.

As a side note: Still a bit undecided with the single copies of Jace, Unraveler of Secrets and Gideon of the Trials but they have both proven to be decent in my albeit limited play-testing. Also, I'm trying to keep the deck clean of the traditional control problems of not having a specific answer to a specific type of threat in order to facilitate better flexibility and less feel-bad moments during certain match-ups, despite the fact that it's nearly impossible to completely solve this issue currently. If anyone has comments about the two wildcard planeswalkers, I'd be very grateful. (Or anything else, really.)
