This deck is one HELL of a wild ride. I want to find what makes
Zirilan of the Claw
work as well as possible (within a reasonable budget) as a general. I really built it from scratch with intentions of just using my dragons to burn and destroy everything ASAP, but it ended up having a lot of synergy by accident through creature combos, enchantments, and artifacts. It's really a blast to find out new utilities that you can use given the array of possible situations in EDH. My goal with this deck is to make it as powerful and fun of a Duel Commander deck as possible.
Every time I play with the deck, it really relies on the chaos of EDH and opponent's decisions to function properly. The nature of EDH and its unpredictability is what makes it my favorite format, so I am not necessarily looking for consistency in the deck, but I do wan't consistent synergy, fun flying creatures, big swings, and most of all I want to express my love for mono deck wins.
Everyday when I play test it, I am finding new combos, new ways to destroy, new ways to burn, and new ways to raise havoc. I wasn't fully aware of mono 's power in EDH until I was subject to the speed of destruction that this deck is capable of. I would like to improve it in a few areas to make it as fast acting as possible in the face of colors like and . For the meantime, I am love
Zirilan of the Claw
as an EDH general, and am trying my best to find combos that I can see while play testing it. I will be carefully documenting every combo I find and trying to improve on my knowledge of the deck's utility for better responses. This deck is a utility tool kit, the only thing is that most of the tools do the same thing. Mindlessly destroy everything. I knew that destruction could be utilized for something, I just didn't know it could be utilized for so much fun until now. By tool kit, what I really mean is that I can tutor for just about anything that I need in most situations, because my commander,
Zirilan of the Claw
, allows me to search my library every turn. Sometimes, I can even search my library TWICE each turn, and reinforce what I need with something else that may synergize. I want to protect
Zirilan of the Claw
So, if you like burning, flyers, destruction, and pretty much mindless field bombing, this deck is absoloutely for you. It works FANTASTICALY in any enviornment, be it 2 player, 4 player, or even 8. I have a LOT of loose bolts to tighthen with this deck, and I REALLY need help pointing out every combo and synergy that is in it, so if anybody does happen to notice a combo or something jank that can be utilized each turn and I don't already have it documented in the "Combos" section, please feel free to let me know what the play is, and what cards the play includes, so that I may document it. This deck is chock FULL of CRAZY and UNPREDICTABLE plays. I am really quite impressed with the diversity in utility that it offers. I'm also impressed with how much I am loving mono . Usually for me, is a splash color, or a color that I use in addition to several others, I have never seriously played mono by itself in EDH, because I assumed that it wasn't powerful enough to hold out its consistency in a 40 life format. BOY WAS I WRONG!
If you like the deck, please +1 on it.
I usually don't ask this in a description, but lately I am having decks with thousands of views after 100 deck cycles, and they aren't getting much recognition or feedback. So even if you HATE this deck's guts, let me know in the comment section as to why you do, and what you might change to make it a deck that you enjoy/appreciate. I really am just looking for feedback and discussion about the game in general, magic is a social game after all, isn't it?
So without Further ado, I present to you LORD ZIRILANS CIRCUS OF DESTRUCTION. WATCH AS THE DRAGONS DELVE THROUGH THE RINGS OF FIRE AND SPREAD THE DESTRUCTION OF FLAMES WITH THEIR WINGS. MAY WE SET THE ENTIRE SHOW ON FIRE, ONLY TO PLEASE OUR LORD.
Oh yeah, and here's some combos and card function explanations.
How to properly use Sundial of the Infinite Show
I had to write this becuase otherwise I will not remember.
When
Sundial of the Infinite
is used, you can potentially keep the dragon card you summoned using
Zirilan of the Claw
, but only if you happened to use
Sundial of the Infinite
correctly, which would be by responding to the trigger of
Zirilan of the Claw
's effect by tapping
Sundial of the Infinite
to end your turn.
SO...
Sundial of the Infinite
can only be used to keep dragon creature on the battlefield summoned with
Zirilan of the Claw
by RESPONDING to his Exile effect by tapping it. Understand?
so the stack looks like this
Main phase 1 begins:
-
Play
Balefire Dragon
using
Zirilan of the Claw
's activated ability
-
Balefire Dragon
resolves
-
Swing for 6 with
Balefire Dragon
-
The swing either resolves or does not resolve.
-
Main Phase 2 begins(do whatever you need to here).
-
End Phase Begins
-
Zirilan of the Claw
's Exile ability is triggered.
-
In response to
Zirilan of the Claw
's ability triggering,
Sundial of the Infinite
is activated to end the turn, disallowing
Zirilan of the Claw
's exile ability to resolve.
Zirilan of the Claw
's exile effect has now taken place, and will not need to do so at the beginning of next turn, becuase it has already happened, and on the stack, was countered by the response of
Sundial of the Infinite
.
SO... Ending the next turn,
Zirilan of the Claw
's Exile effect will not need to take place, as it already has and was canceled on the stack by your reponse.
Cards I'd strongly like to work in Show
Burn for 5 Every turn Show
Free Artifacts every turn Show
Conjurer's Closet
+
Hoarding Dragon
We can just use conjurers closet to re-initiate hoarding dragons effects each turn. Not only will we add the artifact previously exiled to our hand from the last turn, but we will also be able to exile another artifact and gain that to our hand at the beginning of the next turn.
The same effect can be achieved with these cards too
Flameshadow Conjuring
+
Hoarding Dragon
Double your creatures summoning effects each turn Show
Lets say you like to burn people for 5 every turn using
Bogardan Hellkite
's summonining ability.
Lets say you like it so much, you wanna do it 4 times in the same turn, and burn somebody for 20 health, ontop of swinging.
Let me show you how...
Somehow play card:conjurer's closest as well as
Flameshadow Conjuring
. Once you have this combo out on the field, what you can do is exile your creatures at the beginning of your end step, and return them to the battlefield with
Conjurer's Closet
. Immediately after returning them, you can tap to put a token of that creature onto the battlefield. This will allow any creature you want's summoning ability to be repeated twice each turn.
So, if we wanted to burn a player for 20 health on the same turn
Bogardan Hellkite
comes onto the battlefield, all we would have to do is this:
-
Tap to activate
Zirilan of the Claw
's tutoring ability. Search for
Bogardan Hellkite
(or any creature who's summoning ability you'd like to resolve 4 times this turn, really).
Bogardan Hellkite
's ability will resolve, and burn your opponents for 5. That's 1 resoloution of the summoning ability.
-
As
Bogardan Hellkite
enters the battlefield, tap to put a copy token of it onto the battlefield using
Flameshadow Conjuring
. This is the 2nd time it's summoning ability will resolve
-
After swinging with your creatures (for a total of 10 together). You may exile
Bogardan Hellkite
and return him to the battlefield using
Conjurer's Closet
. This will allow the ability to resolve for the 3rd time this turn, and burn for 5 once again.
-
Copy
Bogardan Hellkite
once again, by tapping using
Flameshadow Conjuring
. This will allow the ability to resolve for a 4th time, allowing us to have burned for a total of 20 damage, while only spending .
One thing I do really want to know, if anybody has the answer to it is:
If I use
Flameshadow Conjuring
to copy
Bogardan Hellkite
as it resolves from being put back into play thanks to
Conjurer's Closet
, will I get to keep that copy? Techinically, I have to sacrafice the token created by
Flameshadow Conjuring
at the BEGINNING of my next end step. Since My end step has already begun, and I created the token in response to
Conjurer's Closet
re-playing
Bogardan Hellkite
, wouldn't that mean that the token was created DURING my end step, and that I wouldn't have to sacrafice it at the end of my turn?
Then again, though,
Flameshadow Conjuring
explicitly says that I must exile it at the beginning of the NEXT end step. So even if my token DID stay on the field after my turn, does that mean I still need to exile it at the beginning of my opponent's endstep on the following turn?
