Sideboard

Here's my favorite archetype of all time.

I'm a casual player, and proudly so, so I don't love combo/ netdeck builds designed to use every broken goldfish-y trick in the book to win. Mono-white is arguably one of MTG's weakest builds, and I'd say this holds true for EDH.

The one genuine advantage of this deck is the commander, Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero has such a potent in-built tutor that she actually makes this deck viable and competitive with arguably much better EDH builds. Sadly, not too many incredible rebels have been printed through the years, and they tend to cost at least 1-2 mana too much.

Nonetheless, being monochrome means we can aggressively ramp our mana base with rocks like Armillary Sphere, Hedron Archive, Thran Dynamo, Sol Ring, and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. Add Tithe, Endless Horizons, and Land Tax, and Weathered Wayfarer into the mix, and we've gotten over white's natural mana-ramp defecit.

Win conditions can vary, though most rebel builds rely on locks and infinite combos to win the game. One such combo which can usually be executed effortlessly is Task Force + Outrider en-Kor for infinite triggers and toughness pump. Once you have the Task force pumped to a million, sac it with Worthy Cause (the mana ramp will help you with that buyback cost), and finish out with an Aetherflux Reservoir, Ajani, Caller of the Pride (If you've kept him safe and pumped him), or Test of Endurance (Not currently decked because I don't love winning through these means)).

Card draw is probably the biggest pain for mono white, but Skullclamp, Mentor of the Meek, Well of Lost Dreams and Hedron Archive can lessen the hurt. An added trick I love (use this as you will) is to cast Oblation on some rebel or other card your opponent is spot-removing (even Lin Sivvi, to prevent her from hitting the command zone). Then you draw two cards, and get to tutor your tucked rebel back into play immediately if you have the mana.

In my experience, a great trick for hacking your mid and late game card draw is thinning your lands with Land Tax, Tithe, and Endless Horizons. As many players have learned, don't get too greedy with the horizons because if your opponent spot-removes it and you dug out virtually all your plains, you're left with a nearly landless deck and no way to recover.

Win conditions, other than the life combo I touched on above, include Mirror Entity, or slapping a Pariah's Shield on your Cho-Manno, Revolutionary and enjoy invincibility, on top of the fact that you'll almost certainly be able to dig your Cho-manno right back into play whether he gets bounced, tucked, or somehow killed.

I've played a lot of rebel themed builds since Mercedian Masques, and I can say that even a Nightwind Glider or Thermal Glider should never be underestimated. Many players will be relying almost solely on their black or red removal to mop up their opponent's board, and slap a Armored Ascension or even Pariah if you're brave on Nightwind Glider , and add in a Coat of Arms and you're going to have a very hard to remove 15/14 rebel flying on a rickety wooden glider smashing your opponent's face.

Rebels are my true love, and feedback is welcome. As a note - I'm aware of all the perfectly viable combos I avoided in this deck, and I certainly have a big enough collection to accommodate them, but I typically prefer fair matches with huge boardstates and lots of spellslinging. I'm not trying to win tournaments here, just have fun with friends.

Note - The deck is a bit removal heavy, but that just happens to be one of white's strengths, and I avoided using many boardwipes in this build, as the rebels don't always fare the best with wrath effects (though perhaps Make a Stand or Rootborn Defenses could make this viable.) While we're on the subject of removal Soul Tithe gets my vote for one of the most underrated MTG cards. It's spot removal for ANY permanent, and many savvy players will just sac their damn permanent rather than getting their mana base ruined turn after turn. At worst, it's likely a 1-for-1, and that's more than tolerable. At best, it's a cheaper, monocolored version of Vindicate.
