Wort on the Street - Wort, the Raidmother (EDH)

Commander / EDH RG (Gruul)

"Wort on the street is you are going to lose." - Me

"Sticks and stones my break my bones but Wort will definitely hurt me." - You

"In the end, we will remember not the Wort of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

Do I really need to explain why Wort, the Raidmother should be your commander? This ugly mum contains one of the coolest keyword abilities you have probably never heard off: conspire. Conspire opens up a world of wonderful possibilities by allowing you to copy instants and sorceries by tapping your creatures! Remember that Alpha Brawl that you scrolled by on the Gatherer because it was way too high CMC for what it does? Well scroll back because conspire gives it the power it deserves :). Play all those ostensibly awful instants and sorceries in style now by copying them with Wort, the Raidmother today!

As you read through this deck please leave any feedback on things you feel could help improve the deck. All feedback is greatly appreciated!

NOTE: This deck is a goblin tribal with only three exceptions: Acidic Slime , Eternal Witness , and Purphoros, God of the Forge . Acidic Slime and Eternal Witness exist as green creatures to aid with conspire and also both provide powerful ETB effects. Purphoros, God of the Forge needs no explanation lol. A more competitive deck could be made using more non-goblin creatures but I wanted more of the flavor with this build.

The goal of this deck is to ramp up to Wort, the Raidmother using cards like Circuitous Route and Harvest Season , and then unleash hell casting cards that are decent on their own but even better with copies such as Alpha Brawl , Volcanic Vision , Devil's Play , Nissa's Renewal , Electrodominance and Overwhelming Stampede . I tried to design this deck such that every single instant and sorcery spell in it would provide extra benefit by copying it. The only card that adds no extra benefit is Heroic Intervention and it remains in the deck as it is a very powerful card to protect from boardwipe and whatever else. My main goal is to win with powerful goblins or pay X spells.

Since we are playing big flashy spells and need Wort out to make them more powerful, clearly ramp is a necessity in this deck. Thankfully Wort contains green so it’s not too hard to do just that.

A list of all the ramp cards are (or cost reduction): Explosive Vegetation , Harvest Season , Nissa's Renewal , Reap and Sow , Carpet of Flowers , Cryptolith Rite , Earthcraft , Goblin Warchief , Primal Amulet  Flip, Pyromancer's Goggles , Sol Ring , Thought Vessel , Xenagos, the Reveler , and Mana Echoes

The biggest challenge with this deck due to its color restriction is draw. Every EDH deck needs draw, but this one needs to badly to keep the instant and sorcery train coming. A lot of the spells that offer draw in this deck when copied let you draw into 6-30 cards which is why I run a Reliquary Tower and Thought Vessel in this deck in hopes of saving brain power and avoiding the need to think about which of the 30 cards in my hand should to be discarded afterwards. Suggestions on things to change to add more draw is greatly appreciated!

A list of all the draw spells are: Collective Unconscious , Sylvan Library , Harmonize , Shamanic Revelation , Scroll Rack , and Incendiary Command

Electrodominance : This card is so much fun. You can copy this spell 2-3 times to deal X damage to 2-3 players but it does not end there because now you can play 2-3 spells with CMC X or less for free from your hand...

Comet Storm : Imagine X = 5 and you kick it twice. That is 9 mana total used to deal 15 damage split three way. However, now with Wort you get to copy the spell, and deal 30 damage for only 9 mana, and you have much more freedom in how you distribute it. This does not even consider if it was copied yet an additional time from something like Primal Amulet  Flip.

Vexing Shusher : A total package. It is a gobbling AND plays the role of both a red and green creature for Worts ability. On top of that for 1 extra mana my spells can no longer be countered. Very good for successfully throwing out an X spell.

Nissa's Renewal : If copied, you now gain 14 life and get to search for 6 basic lands to put onto the battlefield for only 6 mana.

Howl of the Horde : This card has won many games. First, attack with one of the several goblin creature tokens that you have to get the raid effect. Next, play Howl of the Horde and copy it so now you get to copy your next instant or sorcery spell FOUR times (not including a 5th copy coming from Wort if you have enough creatures to do so). Basically at this point, any spell you play is going to be a massive threat to your opponents ( Fiery Confluence for example).

Fiery Confluence : For only 4 mana, you can copy this spell to deal 12 damage to each of your opponents... If that is not value I do not know what is. Also works very well as a board wipe for 6 toughness or less creatures and very good artifact removal.

Regrowth and Recollect : I typically do not like to play Recollect as Regrowth is objectively better. However in this deck they have a very powerful synergy. If you copy either of them using Wort, then you can also bring the other back from the graveyard and have a repeatable graveyard recursion. Wildest Dreams is also similar but even more powerful if X is greater than 1.
