Jodah, Archmage Eternal

Commander / EDH

theREALpontoon

After looking at the new Dominaria commanders, I knew my next EDH deck had to be Jodah. First, let's look at Jodah her (him?) self:

So Jodah is a 5-color commander who lets you cheat out spells cheap? That means we get to play every single powerful card ever printed, which sounds like a pretty OK deck. As of right now, TappedOut doesn't have cards from DOM, so Lightning Angel will be playing Jodah's part for now, since it has the same mana cost.

Now, before we get to the big fatties, we need...

Lands, Ramp Spells, & Accelerants

Lands:

Full fetch + shock package minus Watery Grave , since we have very little black and this deck and space needed to be made somewhere.

Bad fetches: Both Terramorphic Expanse and Evolving Wilds can only fetch tapped basics, but are still useful for fixing.

Enemy Pain Lands: More fixing ability, and entering untapped is always nice!

Ally Fast Lands: These are very nice to have in the early game, since they don't come with life loss and come untapped. Usually by the time these come in tapped, you don't need them the turn they come out anyway.

Five-Color Lands: City of Brass and Command Tower round out the fixing lands. We just have some basics to finish the land suite.

The interesting note here is that the deck runs 44 lands, since we almost always want to be drawing them. The point where we can Jodah twice every turn is the point where the deck becomes very, very powerful.

Acceleration:

Farseek , Rampant Growth , Utopia Sprawl , Fertile Ground , Birds of Paradise , Fellwar Stone : Turn 1 and 2 fixing is always nice, and these guys get mana in basically any color.

Terrarion : Provides some fast mana, probably for your first Jodah activation when you can't find that fifth land.

Commander's Sphere , Chromatic Lantern , Darksteel Ingot , Manalith : Provide really nice fixing, providing whichever color you need to cast Jodah or activate her ability on Turn 3 (or Turn 2?)

Harrow , Explosive Vegetation , Hour of Promise , Cultivate , Kodama's Reach : These are a little slower, but can help in those games where you just aren't getting the lands you need. This is why the mana base skews so heavily towards green.

Prismatic Geoscope : This thing is f*king amazing, I use it in all my 5-color EDH decks. For 5 mana, you get 5 mana every turn for the rest of the game, because you probably control a land of every basic land type (or at least 4 of them) at that point. So... extra Jodah activation every turn.

Mirari's Wake : Like Geoscope, this essentially doubles your mana for the rest of the game. One of my favorite EDH cards.

Now, before we get into the big payoffs for all that ramp, we have some...

Other Cards!

Mother of Runes : This protects your Jodah and big creatures from whatever kill spells your "buddies" point at them (which they will after your first turn 5 Emrakul).

...And that's about it.

Payoffs!

There's a lot of stuff here, so I'll just go through the more interesting stuff:

Akroma's Memorial : Buff your already ridiculous creatures. All-around a fun card.

Archetype of Endurance : Fends off kill spells, but beware of Wraths.

Clone Legion : This is too spicy to not include, but the critical mass of legendary creatures makes it not as useful as it could be.

Curse of the Cabal : This card is so much fun! Every time I can cheat things out, this is an auto-include.

Damia, Sage of Stone : Running out of gas is a weakness for this deck, so Damia is super useful! Also see Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur , and Thought Reflection

Emrakul, the Promised End : Is Emrakul. See also: Progenitus .

Grozoth : In case you haven't noticed, there are lots of 9-drops in here. Grozoth is nice enough to fetch every single one of them for you.

Myojin of Life's Web : Like Grozoth, this plays basically all of your cards. Also see Omniscience .
