Skully Stax Attacks, EDH

Commander / EDH BG (Golgari) Stax

foreverzero

Maybeboard

An aggro/stax version of Skully. Play Skully early, then toss out a bunch of stax to slow down the board and keep your opponent's from doing what they want to. Designed with a low curve in mind to be able to better work under the stax cards you're throwing out.

Sweepers:

Languish and Deluge can both be survived if you've gotten Skully big enough, and keep in mind that there are some very problematic creatures at 1 toughness, so don't forget that Golgari Charm can wipe them out.

Spot Removal:

You generally want stuff that's cheap and versatile with as few restrictions as possible. The Maybeboard has some other options to swap in depending on what you find works well in your group.

Voltron pieces:

I've continued to cut back on these over the years. Going all in on Voltron is never a good idea if you have any degree of combo in your meta and Skully really doesn't need too much beyond himself, but you do want means of getting around fat blockers or problematic generals like Animar. The swords are always a solid go to since they have such a huge impact, but beyond that, I'd try and only keep a few beyond those. Riding the Dilu Horse is excellent since it doesn't wear off at end of turn, but do remember that it won't persist through zone changes.

If your meta is aggro heavy, making use of cheap ways past is the best option, like Vorrak Battlehorns or Ring of Kalonia, since they get the job done with some added benefits. Just make sure to keep in mind the stax pieces that mess with artifacts (like Null Rod and Damping Matrix) if you go heavy on the equipment. While fairly important for preventing a wide array of combos, they also shut down some of your good stuff, so know when to play them.

Expensive stuff:

If you already have them or can afford to grab them, Chains of Mephistopheles and Tabernacle are both really solid additions to the deck. Chains can interfere with certain combos and is just a general pain to live under (note that while it messes with Phyrexian Arena, it actually does nothing to Dark Confidant, Dark Tutelage and Mirri's Guile), while Tabernacle really doesn't do too much to you, but can be really aggravating to everyone else.

Maybeboard:

This basically consists of options you might consider based off of your meta. Putrefy and Hero's Downfall are a bit pricey as far as spot removal goes, but the added versatility might be what you need if you think your games are likely to be a bit on the slower side of things.

Tireless Skinner and Snake Umbra are fairly cheap Voltron pieces that both have some solid benefits.

The rest of the cards are largely stax pieces that you might swap in depending on what you generally face in your playgroup.
