Do you like spells?

Do you like lots of little ones, or lots of big ones?

Do you just like drawing more cards than your opponents?

If you answered yes to any of these, that's great - just play my deck please.

My competitive Melek EDH brew that I want to say is Storm influenced, but wins more through general combos than anything.
For those short on time, the deck is rather simple - draw cards, cast High Tide (off the top with Melek if you can), and pop off. For those who have more time, keep reading.

"Hey, you know you could probably be doing way better than Melek, right?

You know what? You're probably right, and I know that for certain. I pick Melek out of a place of nostalgia - he was my very first commander deck, and I thought I should go back to my roots and refine my favourite archetype of all time - drawing all the cards.

With drawing cards in mind, Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind was also on the shortlist of generals I'd take on a hot date, but like taking a dragon on a date, it paints a pretty huge target on your head. Niv makes it very easy to win the game through Curiosity, and if that's your jam, go right ahead, but there's no grace and subtlety to that. Melek is far more concealable when you're doing nothing on the board, and so long as there are no insane spells on the top of your library, you could convince removal to go somewhere else. Also, he is dumb expensive mana-wise. Melek can, and has, fallen for this trap too, but the deck doesn't require him to win, which is also another pitfall for Niv-Mizzet, whom is a centrepiece.

Mizzix of the Izmagnus was the next in line for the role of General, but she is quite the target, and the mana sink if she eats all the removal, and she has and will. However, the deck could quite easily work with her substituted. It also opens up the deck to a different type of archetype with her at the helm, which would just be Izzet big spells, but that's the wrong deck, mate.

There are a few ways to grab the win. Initially, the primary win condition was Ignite Memories, however, I felt that this was quite a glass cannon, and Flusterstorm says what's up. For this, I've included a few additional methods of annihilation.
- Aetherflux Reservoir is a hell of a card, and I've heard killing people to death with a big blue tower is rather easy when your entire deck is basically spells.
- Splinter Twin and Deceiver Exarch are included as an alternative, but with the amount of cycling this deck is capable of, you may have a hard time getting this combo to function without a Elixir of Immortality around. When you have it in hand, use it. Otherwise, discarding it isn't the end of the world.
- Enter the Infinite and Laboratory Maniac were born to make a lot of babies. A lot. They're a dream team, and you should have no trouble getting the win with these two.
- Isochron Scepter with Dramatic Reversal + Sol Ring + any other artifact that generates coloured mana = infinite mana of any colour (substitute the Sol Ring for any combination of artifacts that generate ). This combo also enables some other infinite cycles that can be used and abused. Cards like Scroll Rack and Sensei's Divining Top allow for absurd card draw.
- Splinter Twin + Deceiver Exarch = infinite creatures with haste (I missed this bandwagon when it was legal in Modern, let me have it this time)
- A bit of tech I'm testing is Proteus Staff. If targeting Melek, you can reorder your entire library however you'd like, and then put Melek back into play. Only downside with this game plan is that you have to remove all other creatures from the deck, and whether this is worth cutting creatures like Baral, Chief of Compliance or not, I'm still testing for. - Because Melek loves the top card, working with Scroll Rack or cards like Brainstorm and Ponder to reorganize the top card of your library is fantastic, and you should feel big money when you put something phat on top, like High Tide or Turnabout.
