Creature (1)

How to play this deck?

The main strategy is using Lazav with his low mana cost to copy other low cost creatures that deal huge amounts of damage, but without having their nasty side effects:

you'll see that those creatures give a fairly good amount of power, but also have great disadvantages, such as giving creature advantage to other players, removing your cards from play, skipping turns, and such. Since those effects only take place when entering the battlefield, Lazav can safely copy them without having troubles.

In order to copy them, though, you'll have to get them in the graveyard first. That's where the Dimir guild comes to your help: instead of blindly milling your deck, you'll have the ability to surveil and decide if you want to put cards into the graveyard or draw them the next time. With a bit of luck and Enhanced Surveillance you'll be able to surveil 2 additional cards each time, and that will come in handy. A couple of cards also grant bonuses when you surveil, such as +1/+1 counters, getting to draw more cards, direct damage to opponents, extra abilities. Included some other tutoring forms that will allow you to directly put cards in your graveyard from your library.

To protect yourself and Lazav from the opponents, besides the classic blue counters and black removal spells, other nasty and fun means of control are provided. You'll be able to mill your opponents with Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker , play your opponent's magic against them with Thief of Sanity , and mill them at the same time, as well as with the Nightveil Specter . In cases of emergency you might as well put into your graveyard the Invisible Stalker , who has hexproof, so you'll be able to protect Lazav when it's targeted by abilities or spells.
