Here is another Mardu deck.As I am a Mardu fan, I like to brew with it.

This deck is planeswalker focused. The only creatures in this deck are tokens, Gideons and manlands.

The base tactic is to survive the first rounds with discard, wall of omens and removal and then slam a planeswalker. The most of them are able to remove creatures by themselves, so it is hard for the opponet to drop and stay new creatures. Elspeth, Sun's Champion and Chandra, Flamecaller are able to win the game in a few rounds, as they have build in sweepers and good damage output. Coalition Relic helps to cast them.

You guys have any suggestions?

I run mardu walkers in standard and do pretty well. Try the oath cards, especially Oath of Chandra and Oath of Liliana. Both are removal with added value later, the later being extra good pumping out 2/2 creatures. Given the high amount of discard, you may get some benefit from madness, since you have a few discard outlets.

Thank you for your feedback! I am not sure about Oath of Chandra, because 3 damage at sorcery speed for 2 Mana isn't what I miss in the deck. Oath of Liliana on the other side can be useful against eldrazis, bogles and thrun, also the zombie can protect the walkers. Maybe also Oath of Gideon could be useful.

Sadly there no good madness cards beside Fiery Temper as far as I know and I am not even using bolt in this deck.

Try lost legacy over slaughter games in the side board. I have found the can't be countered to rarely matter and the fact that it come down a turn earlier matters a lot vs decks like ad nauseum and storm. Additionally against the decision you are bring in slaughter games for you rarely care about them drawing it completely neuters their deck.

Yes Lost Legacy is definitely better in some/most situations. The not-counterable part in slaughter games is relevant in scapeshift and in he control matchups, which are played in my local meta.

But since untaidake is now working for people, the counter control matchup should be better now

I think you should cut the number of 5+ mana planeswalkers and 4 Coalition Relics. You could probably add 4 Wall of Omens and increase the number of cheaper walkers, with new rulings Liliana, the Last Hope can play alongside with Liliana of the Veil. I see you removed Nahiri+Emrakul package, but you can probably still keep 1 Nahiri, the Harbinger, as her +2/-2 abiliets generate quite a lot value. I would also go down the number of Path to Exile and add more Fatal Push. You could also consider putting 1-2 Mardu Charm as this card is quite underplayed and can get you some nice value when opponent doesn't expect it. You also have 9 lands that would come into play tapped on turns 4+, so I would cut 2 fast lands and add 2 fetches.

I am not planning to cut the relics and 5+ mana walkers completely, because they are the core of the deck and Elspeth or Chandra on turn 4 is just insane. Maybe I can drop the number of the expensive walkers.

I am not sure about Liliana, the Last Hope, because the -1 is completely useless in this deck (except fulminators sb). But thanks to the rule change, I could add more gideons

Yes, Nahiri is still a good Walker even without Emmy, but I think Chandra, Torch of Defiance or ajani vengeant are also viable options. Maybe a mixture of a 3 would be nice.

Mardu Charm is definitely a cool card and I will try to find some room for it.

With the land base you are absolutely right, I would to reliable hit the 4th land untapped. I was thinking of check lands like Isolated Chapel would also be fine

Maybe run some number of maindeck Pyroclasm effects to keep the board clear of aggressive Goblin Guide-esque creatures the first few turns? Wrath of God is good, but it might be too little, too late on turn 4 if you're facing an aggro deck.

Yes, you are right. Pyroclasm has the advantage of only having a 2 CMC, wrath and anger of Gods have 3 or 4. Also the deck already wants to play something else on turn 3 and 4. (Relic+6cmc Walker or Lili/lingering souls+ ajani) But turn 2 slot has space.

I will move the wraths to SB and remove anger

I would focus in on a few walkers instead of this one-of split you seem to be having, I think that is the way to go if you want this list to be as competitive as possible. In other words ask yourself which walker do I need to see every game and go from there, so personally for me that means 3-4 Liliana of the Veil, and a lower number of unique walkers.

@Oloro_Magic basically you are right, but I have found Pithing Needle a problem for the walkers. So I decided to distribute the cards a bit. Basically any of the 6 Walkers are powerful, so I don't care which one I will see (maybe I will remove Sorin for another chandra and remove Ob Nixilis for another big Gid).

I would like to increase the number of Liliana of the Veil, but budget reasons. I think I will remove small Gideon for her.

If Pithing Needle is a problem post-board then I would recommend reworking the sideboard. Pithing Needle is one of those cards that either sees tons of play in sideboards at any given meta or it sees none and it sounds like you have run into the former. By Force, Disenchant, Smash to Smithereens are all cards that could be considered to hep curb that problem.

Yes I know. I find it a useful card too. The Seek part is nice versus Nahiri Emrakul dekcs, where it removes their win-con and also gains 15 life. Also nice versus combo decks with few wincon cards like Ad Naseum or Storm.

The Hide part is also very useful, it removes all enchantchments and artifacts and gets therefore around Keranos, Wurmcoil Engine or welding jar (in lantern)

I like the idea, but one question: why no Lightning Bolt? It is one of the best cards in the modern format.

Simply because there is no place for it and hard removal is in most cases better.

Bolt is useless vs tasigur, angler, thought knot seer, reality smasher, death shadow, etc. And those creatures are a great part of the (/my current) meta.

Push, Path, Terminate, Wrath are just in most times better since the deck isn't that fast and therefore doesn't need the reach of bolt going face.

If I have the need for more removal or if the meta changes, I will definitely add some copies of bolt
