Sideboard

The idea behind this is to create a Standard-legal mill deck. With the new support in M19 Patient Rebuilding + Psychic Corrosion , we've got two great cards to build around. We've also got a fun combo with Fleet Swallower + Fraying Sanity , and a smaller energy/card draw engine to fuel Minister of Inquiries. There's also a small control element with both Disallow + Spell Pierce , with sideboard options to go heavy into that control shell if needed. There's also a small white splash with the Glacial Fortress, so that we can use Cast Out + Settle the Wreckage against aggro decks, which is most likely our worst matchup in the meta right now.

As for combos, there's not too many big flashy combos that exist beyond the previously mentioned Fleet Swallower + Fraying Sanity . You're mostly looking to get your Minister of Inquiries up and running early, and then using your milling enchantments to generate advantage. Fraying Sanity is probably the most important piece even if it doesn't mill on it's own, because it effectively doubles every mill you get, and if you manage to get two out, you should win easily.

As for competitive viability, who knows? This obviously won't be winning any PTQs anytime soon, but I think it can get some FNM wins, and certainly some kitchen table wins as well. It's a super fun deck for how low the price is (you can cut the white sub-theme to drop the price even more), and it can steal wins from nowhere. If only this was Standard legal for longer.

Updates Add

I think this might be the last update, at least until I get this fully built IRL and take it to FNM. In playtesting a semi-proxy version, I was mostly successful. Any non-aggro deck seemed to struggle, especially with the milling hurting land drops and removing non-basics they needed. However against aggro, I suffered. Red removal absolutely destroys our small creatures, and keeps us from getting mill in that area, and I just can't mill fast enough to get them dead before I lose from life loss.

This update moves Settle the Wreckage to the mainboard, and updates the mana accordingly. I actually found myself using the cycling ability of my dual land a lot, and I figure with 8 total white sources now, we can use Settle with no issues. Cast Out may eventually find a home in the maindeck as well, but I'll see if I want Negate over it or not.
