The primary goal of this deck is to win with a necrotic ooze combo

What Lazav, the Multifarious Is

Combo-Based. (You're looking to resolve a single combo, and that's the only goal of the deck) explosive. Resilient.

What Lazav, the Multifarious Isn't

A storm deck. A midrange deck. A stax deck.

HOW DOES THE WIN CON WORK?

Step 1: Get Phyrexian Devourer and Walking Ballista into the grave yard.

Step 2A: Get Necrotic Ooze into play so that it has all abilites of the walker and devourer.

Step 2B: if necrotic ooze is in your graveyard put Lazav, the Multifarious into play and use his ability to turn him into a necrotic ooze.

Step 3: With ooze or lazav use the Phyrexian Devourer ability to exile a card from the top of your library to put a number of +1/+1 counters equal the exiled cards cmc onto ooze or lazav.

Step 4: with ooze or lazav use the Walking Ballistaability to remove a +1/+1 counter and deal a damage to any target.

Step 5: Repeat steps 3-4 until you have won the game.

HOW DO WE GET TO THE WIN CON?

the most efficient way to get our win con into the yard is through card filtering draw spells such as Careful Consideration, Frantic Search and Windfall.allowing you to both put your win con into the graveyard and put more interaction into your hand.

we can use a card likeIntuition and Fact or Fiction in conjunction with discard outlets like Putrid Imp and Lion's Eye Diamond put the cards into your graveyard and make your opponents choice that much harder.

the deck can also useBasalt Monolith and Mesmeric Orb to self mill until the combo pieces are in the yard and utilize lazav as the outlet this way.

INTERACTION

A combo deck in a high power meta the deck must be able to interact with opponents and how they are trying to win. to that end there is a healthy counter spell package in the deck. as well as removal and bounce. Witch serves to stop your opponents from winning and protect your combo when you are trying to win.

THINGS TO NOTE

This deck is a graveyard maters style build. As such there are a few things to note on this subject. Grafdiggers cage has little to no effect against this deck. But the other common grave hate cards such as rest in peace can stop the deck in its tracks and strip part of the decks win con out of the yard. So this should always be watched out for and played around until you get the answer.

There is a substantial tutor package in the deck. It is usually better to tutor for filter cards and interaction than a part of the wincon. Unless you are at a point where that last piece will let you win.

why play this deck? if you like playing decks that rely on the stack. you like interactive game play. you enjoy playing control heavy decks.

why not to play this deck? if finding the right answer for the question being asked is to hard. protecting a combo is to challenging for you.

good matchups fast combo midrange
